Getting buildings to build faster?

Hello. This time I'm wondering how can I build my buildings (:P) faster, especially on newly colonized planets... Sometimes it takes like 70 weeks to build a Factory! Well, I usually start by a factory, because I'm supposing it speeds things up, but I'm not sure about that... Any help appreciated!

Set spending to 100%. Set social rate slider to 100%, other two to 0%. A factory should be built in 5 turns.

More modern factories take longer to build than the basic factory. If you colonize a planet once you have already researched a higher level factory you can click on a tab above the buildings list on the planet screen. Click the old tab and the list will display obsolete factories that build quickly. A few of these and you can build modern factories much more quickly.

If you are not going to reset your sliders, use the focus button at the top of the colony screen in to "social" area. This will re-allocate 50% each of your military and research spending into your social spending (at a 50% effectiveness penalty, i think).

Iztok:Hm, OK, but the last time I tried upping the social rate it didn't have any noticeable impact... Maybe I didn't look where I had to? Now that I think of it: I seem to recall seeing a lot of hammers on the social part of the planet view, but only a few of those were being used, the rest of them allocated to military-- how could I get to maximize their use? (I'm guessing by upping the social rate?) And if I still have some left: how could I reallocate them from military to research?

Thanks!

Ah, building old factories! Hadn't thought of that, thanks :)

And using focus? Yes, I just did that when I found out, but didn't know of the penalties... It's not that great then, more of a fix than a solution.

Not exactly true. Focus converts 1/4 of labs output into production, and 1/2 of the other production field. No penalities apply to that transfer, but not a single point of bonus production or research is transferred. The increased factories output from manuf. capital, power plants and asteroid mines is not counted as a bonus production, so it is transferred. For more detailed explanation you can check wiki: Military production and Research.
