Approval and Influence Bonus Tiles

Call me Bubba, but I don't understand what you have to build on the tiles that have a 100% approval bonus or a 100% influence bonus. Some tiles have text about being a natural place for interstellar tourists to visit, and I've sometimes built Entertainment Centers on these. Don't know if that's right. It would help if somebody out there would give a rundown on which social improvements get the benefit of thexe tiles. Manufacturing, Research and Farming (food production) bonuses are obvious, but Influence, Approval and Tourist appeal not so obvious to me.

I've asked a lot of questions on this forum and gotten so much help...if I should be looking things up in the Wiki instead of asking questions here, somebody please give the link to the Wiki...I've never located it.

Thanks for your replies.

Influence = Embassies

Approval = Entertainment

I've pretty much never built anything on the influence bonuses since tourism is a joke.

and influence buildings are mostly a joke aswell... ^^

But it's my understanding that influence buildings on an influence tile will, naturally, help you along the way when going for an Influence Victory. An assumption on my part so if I'm wrong...

I usually won't put an embassy on an Influence Tile unless there is a planet next to it that I want to flip (then when the planet becomes mine I'll put a Factory or Stock Market on that tile). Approval Tiles can be pretty handy once you start getting a planet's population up around 12b.

Influance is only a joke when you don't have a +40% racial ability  ;)

Influence/diplomacy gives you several advantages:
- more tourism income
- better deals when trading with other civilizations
- reduces chance that your colonies/mines will revolt
- increases chance that AI colonies/mines will revolt to join you
- improves relations with other civilizations reducing chance AI will declare war on you

I always build embassy's on the bonus tiles and upgrade to cultural exchange centers by mid game.

The most useful building to build on a 100% Approval 'Mystic Spring' tile is the Counter-Espionage Center. It blocks spies off the planet it's built on and saves you those ridiculous nullifying costs, and gives you a 20% Morale bonus for free.

The best thing to build on a 100% Influence 'Ruins' tile is of course the Stock Market. It's real use is it's 25% Economic bonus, but it's extra 5% Influence bonus will get doubled anyway. The best things for spreading influence aren't embassies, but influence starbases and stock markets instead.

The Political Capital building also gives a huge bonus in both Influence and Morale, so building it on either of these tiles will generally make your Political Capital planet the happiest/most populated and/or most influential planet in your empire.

EDIT: If you have the Mind Control Center(which stops planet flips) and aren't going for the 75% influence victory, then the Ruins tile is worthless. Just build whatever you want on it.
