OK ... one more TERROR STAR question

I was under the impression that if you formed a fleet with a terror star using warp bubble technology on one of the ships, you could boost the speed of the galacially slow terror star. .... I tried and it didn't work. Has anyone had experience in speeding up the terror star?

If I recall correctly, the devs said that it wasn't supposed to work. Any ships, even those using fleet warp bubbles, will slow to down to protect the Terrorstar.

The whole idea of Terrorstars is a slow weapon of mass destruction. The fleets are there to provide protection for the Terrorstar, not to speed it up. The whole 10 turns before it can be moved was intentional after all.

Yeah, I wish they hadn't made that change in this beta. I felt it was a good, thoughtful use of technology, ships and fleets. Honestly, I don't get why a warp bubble can improve the movement rate of tons of ships but not a TS.

*sigh* It isn't like you can go screaming around the galaxy using Warp Bubbles and a TS so I'd really like to see them change it back. By no means a game breaker, but it'd be nice from my perspective. :)

I'd also like to see this put back. I mean, the whole concept of the warp bubble is to do somethng clever like this. And you're right, it doesn't speed you up all that much, just a little bit. Please guys, put this back in. It's really one of the main reasons to use the warp bubbles.

Plenty of ways to rationalize the fact you can't warp bubble the terror-star. Let's just say it's too big. Death star was the inspiration anyway. And in the terror-star combat view...just say it's not to scale.

I think it's 20x better you can't move it too fast. Just too damn easy to win that way.

Thanks ... seems like there's support on both sides of the issue. ... I think I come down on the side of giving the terror star just a little more speed. If you've got the terror star well protected, then the snail pace just postpones the inevitable. If the terror star isn't well protected, then speeding it up just a little won't protect it. ... and your heavy investment is wasted. .... but I can see dctrjons point. After all, its our job to win the game with the rules we get.

Slow terror stars are a good thing. I like the change for this Beta that the warp bubble tech will not work to speed them up.

Given that warp bubbles are not available to all races, I'd rather no one have the tech to speed them up.

Indeed.

Also, let's be honest here... these things attack Targets that do move very much at all... so little in fact, they are quite Stationary ;). Terror Stars don't need to be fast. :)

Really, the best way to use terror stars is to send a fleet of constructors and a fleet to defend them... build the terror star next to your target, and defend it for the next ten weeks. After that, BAM! No more Star System.

And they can take out up to five planets, plus ships, plus any nearby starbases, with one shot. They're pretty powerful as long as they have an escort. Even with the speed limit, they're sometimes useful in preference to simply invading.
