Planet Focus on Research?

In reading strategy posts here I've seen two references to "set my planet focus on research" as part of game strategy. This goes along with the "all-factory" approach, in which you build all factories on colonies, no labs. Apparently your tech research is supposed to happen because of "setting the planet focus on research" even if you have no labs. Am I playing the same game here? Damned if I can find any button or menu that allows me to "set planet focus on research." There is no mention of that in the DA manual. It's not the same as setting the slider on research, they specifically mention how the slider is set and then go on to setting the planet focus on research. How do you "set planet focus on research"? Is this something in Dread Lords, not Dark Avatar? Or in an earleir build of Dark Avatar? Really mystified here. Thanks for your replies.

Just three "Bulls-Eye" on the top side of planetary development screen to clickon as often as you'd wish (RTM, it is there)... or even bringing list headers on colony management while parsing to bring the column right under a single-click darkened box, again once only. Blue-beakers all over the place and a nicely lightened rectangle to prove it has been activated.

On the screen where you can actually see the improvments on your planets, like when you duoble click th planet, on top you see your shield, beakers and hammers ith a number nex to each, near that you will see a bullseye. Cliking that bulldeye will cause that part of the planets production (ie social, military or research) to be focuses. you ill see th numvbers go up for that one and don for the other 2. How much will depend on the number of factories and labs you have onthat planet.

This can also be cdone from the colony list screen that hows all of youyr colonies and what they are building etc. there ar 3 columns, one for each producion. you can click in a box to focus to that particular production for that planet. Thi screen is goo to see what you mot productive planets are and you can also see hich if any planets are focuses.


Foucusing production is not just for the all factory or all lab strategies. I use it often. Especially at the beginning of the game when a plant has no star base and its research is like 2 nyway. i focu on social. Usiibg focu can hlp you gt thing built faster, like a long-time-build structure. And when your plant has stopped builing social structures you can focus on research of ship building.
