game is still crashing sometimes when you try to upgrade a ship in the ship yard. i should say crashes to desk top.


this seems to happen mostly when i hit the defense button.

I have, as noted in my previous post in this thread. I agree it appears related to pathfinding in part, but also might be caused by automated space miner issues and/or some internal conflict in game rules. For example, I once had the game stick when I declared war on the Torians and one of their fleets immediately tried to attack my own. However, the UP had entered that rule that no one could attack the other side following a declaration of war for on full turn. Thus the Torian attack was in conflict. The result was a disappearing turn change button and a mostly unresponsive game (I could save and exit, but that was about it). Upon reload of the saved game, the turn button reappeared but was frozen and thus useless. I sent this one and the Devs corrected that particular conflict, but I think there are other similar ones out there that are still causing problems.

Right now, even this major problem seems minor compared to the invasion crash bug. The game is essentially uplayable if the AI cannot successfully invade a player's planets without crashing the game. Unfortunately, we may have to live with this one for two weeks because a new beta is not due until then. (I think we'll all make it though though. ;) ).

1-Maybe WAD... but the Thalens built Three galactic achievements, one on the 1st turn ( it was the first pop up screen of the game... ), one on the 2nd turn, and one on the 3rd turn. On the 4th turn, the Altarians did same. Wish I could build like that... Small map, 6 AI's Difficulty 1 above normal, and I had Ctrl N'd. As a side note, the galaxy was set for abundant everything and the first 4 maps had almost no planets... the 5th time, I had multiple star systems with 5 p7-p12 planets all in a row. It was a clear case of all or nothing.

2-Pop up for "planet is not building anything" after paying for an improvement, even though the build que has multiple improvements in line to be built in the planet screen.

3-Planet/Ship list refuses to stay still, as in where I was. On a list of 20 planets I am going through the ship building ( starport ) on each one... every time I change a build, the list resets to a preset location, usually back to the other end of the list. It's a royal pain in the a## to have to scroll back down to where I was, change another build... and then have the list reset back to where it was so I can scroll back down to where I want to be. May not seem like a big deal, but doing it over and over every time you need to change something gets really annoying, really fast.

4-The build que no longer always updates to the newest incarnation of ship after you redesign/upgrade it. This is an inconsistent event. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, although "doesn't" seems to be winning.

5-The button at the bottom of the robot screen is suddenly finicky... It used to be you just had to be in the neighborhood, now I have to click and move around until I find the sweet spot to close the screen. Speaking of which, can we have an option NOT to see him/her/it anymore. If the message was different every time I could see it, but how many years/games do I have to read about the "new" hyperspace drive I researched... again.

6-Wacky build focus numbers: An example... p18 planet with no focus 36-15-3. On Social build focus: 32-22-2... somewhat normal but military didn't lose too much. On Military focus however: 38-7-2... A 15 point swing in social focus, but a gain of 2 (TWO) on the military side ??? That just don't seem right...

7-2 of 3 "evil" races got the "we're going to be nice to everybody now" event... within 2 turns of each other. At least the Drengin stuck to their guns... and their ceilings as I "neutral"ized them...

8-Several of the hulls have been reworked, and the null points are no longer functioning as they were. In particular one of the medium hulls... All of the angles are changed so parts come off straight instead of at the nice angles it used to. Also, I used to be able to use alot of parts as canopies, but with all of the new textures, that's not possible. It leaves me with ONE canopy choice. I hate that all my ships look the same now... you either use the hulls as is or you add the one canopy left. I miss the old textures and mounting points already.

The following are suggestions:

1-Can we have numbers on the sliders and dials in the ship build window... My hands are terribly unsteady at times, and having to fiddle with the dials and sliders is difficult and time consuming. It would be SO NICE to put an angle # in a box... especially when building symmetrical ships. I've tried the constraint angles set high... but there's a reason it's called a "constraint".

2-With all of the editors, is there going to be one in which I can change the part textures? Not change the shape mind you, just the color/look/feel of a part. A simple 256 color editor in game as part of the shipbuilder shouldn't be that hard to do. Heck, the original Nascar1 game from papyrus had one. It was clunky, but it was enough. Please? Please can we have one??? I need to make some fighter canopies... I know there is supposed to be an add a component editor, but will that allow for creation/modification of jewelry components???

Thanks for your time and efforts! There is alot in TA that has made it worth the upgrade, and I am enjoying it immensely! I look forward to everything but the terror stars... ?;)

IIRC the focus mechanics have been altered in TA to make focusing more wasteful, effectively killing the all-x strategy. Unfortunately it also wrecks the ability to manage your empire on a planet-by-planet basis, you need to change your sliders to make significant changes.

Am I the only one who's having the game crash (no apparent memory issues, about a dozen turns after my first newly designed ships roll off the line)? This has happened to me with the Altarians and twice with the Thalans.

Saving and reloading sometimes puts this off a couple turns, but it still happens. Basically, the game has been unplayable for me since the patch.

I'm also having random crashes/whole system resets, I played for 3 hours last night no problems, and then again today for an hour then wham reset, tried reloading first attempt reset during loading, second attempt played for 5 min, and reset.

Yeah, I've had this one in previous versions with the Krynn offering the exact same tech. If you trade with them, you will get nothing. This is not working as intended as far as I know.

* TOURISM! I don't know for a fact, but tourism appears to be totally broken. I'm playing as the Thalan, my influence is either tied for first or else very close to it. But my tourism income is only 39BC a turn. I may be way off here, but that seems exceptionally low compared to prior betas. It's a large galaxy with 7 races left (including mine), and everybody seems to have around 5 planets on average. With tourism this low, the new maintenance on ships is killing me.

antracer, play as the Thalan and you'll see why #1 happened (i.e., it ain't a bug at all). As for #6, was there anything in the social queue? If not, your numbers seem exactly what I'd expect since unused social production just gets dumped into military.

yea tourism seems to be neutered in the new beta. It seems like they upped the ship maint but forgot to keep tourism the same so now maintaining fleets is ridiculous.

The dumping of the social points wasn't the issue... it's the gain of only 2 points from it all that I wondered about. If as stated in reply #28 that this is a new game mechanic, then that's the way it is and I'll get used to it. I'm not necessarily in favor of such a drastic move, but i can understand the desire to curb end game manipulation of Military focus. I also believe it's being used as a back door to controlling numbers of ships, therefore controlling memory usage... I would tend to believe the game will become "more expensive/restrictive" unilaterally in the end to curb the memory needs, especially with the larger map size being added...

As to the Krynn... is it only the counter espionage tech they pretend to trade? Isn't what he's doing the ultimate espionage? The greatest spy work is that which is so obvious no one sees it... I mean if you can get somebody to trade for nothing... (sarcasm...)

A large galaxy with everyone having 5 planets??? I just had a small galaxy (everything on abundant, mind you) where I had 15 planets... I wasn't the big man on campus for awhile either... Of course I can't finish the game due to the invasion crash bug... but it was still an interesting start. I'll have to check on the tourista income and compare...

sorry to run on... a good vocabulary is not always a good thing to have... ;)

The description for the Nightmare Torpedo mentions it tearing the "fabrice" of space.

It should say *fabric* of space.

Mouse stopping to work while clicking on fleet who just engaged in battle, several times. I have all animations off but I still see the fight on the main map. Playing on painfull as the Yor and lolz just as I am about to attack (Colony rush is over) I have almost depleted the tech tree already. Almost no enemy in orbit on their planets and I saw 1 or 2 enemy fleets thats about it and i have eye of the uni so i can see plenty. Very boring. Maintenance is rediculous. I want biiiigggg fleets and I want to see them on the enemy as well! It feels like in beta 4 the ai took a bit too much valium or is hindered somehow (econ wise) I do like the new invasion screen btw hehe.

Hi All

I had this in Beta 3 and just had it in Beta 4. Well into the game - I'll click the next turn button and it disappears, basically ending the game.

Anyone else experience this?

My flagship got stuck on an asteroid and nothing I would do could get it unstuck. Finally had to destroy it so the maintenance wouldn't get me.

While this is not really a bug per se, I've also noticed that research has become substantially faster in this Beta, which in my opinion is not a good thing. I noted that one of the things changed according to the change log was how research costs were calculated. Even on very slow research, the research just seems way to fast to be enjoyable. For example, on the "painful" difficulty setting, I didn't even build a warship until I had already achieved photonic torpedos, which was accomplished by researching the missile techs in one burst. The lower techs are not even used because one can research through most of a series and go straight for the more advanced techs.

I agree with this poster. Even with my newly crippled economy limping along at between 20 and 50%, I am researching techs every one or two turns. I always play with research set to the slowest pace, and although I'm on an immense map, I don't have more than about 25 worlds. It would be really nice if anyone ever had space combat with just the cruddy initial weapons. I'm always at least on the third rung before I start needing any ships.

I don't think that's what the poster meant. I believe his intended meaning was that after engaging in combat he could not select other things. That is a bug that has been reported, including by me.
