ok time to start a list of bugs for beta 4

game is still crashing sometimes when you try to upgrade a ship in the ship yard. i should say crashes to desk top.


this seems to happen mostly when i hit the defense button.

Thalan starbases can't build defenses.

Even with Hyperion Starbases and all the hull techs up to Medium researched.

Additionally,

Hyperion Starbases seems to do nothing other than act as a pre-req for terror stars.

Looks like the components that are supposed to go with Hyperion either aren't done or aren't hooked up.

One small typo: the Hyperion Hull Point module is listed in the research screen and ship builder as "HyperionHullPoint" -- like it hasn't been translated from programmer to English :D

Using the Terran I have the starting ability "Luck 25%" and have not seen one Luck related early finished research project as of Feb 2233. In the last game that I started and finished before the update today the Luck bonus would happen a few times at least during the early part of the game.

this isn't a bug but it is beginning to bug me.


the foreign buildings need to be in their own list. specially now that you have added even more terrain buildings to the game.

Altarian Tech: Paradise Worlds. It's supposed to provide +10 planet quality. What it does instead is update your worlds' rated PQ, but does not actually make more tiles available.

Another weird one: I clicked on a Yor colony ship to see its movement rate, to see if it would beat my colony ship to a planet both were aiming for. After doing so, I went to buy a colony ship, and the colony ship I wanted to buy was replaced with a Yor colony ship:



It's not even the one I clicked on, which was using the Constructor hull.

This is more a typo than a bug, but the Thalan level 3 research structure (and probably the manufacturing structure, but I didn't pay attention) really disappointed me at first - the cost going down was nice, but all that research to get a tech that just saves a little money seemed pointless. Then I noticed that my research actually went up a great deal when I upgraded - given that level 2 and 3 both claimed 12RP, this shouldn't have happened. And the description implies it's the best research structure in the game, so its claim of producing only 12 RP is wrong. Not sure the actual value, but it'd be good to get in there. The time spent researching level 3 structures seems totally wasted if you aren't (a) futzing around like I was, or (b) done researching everything else of importance. But seeing that it gives you an actual boost would make it much more worth the time spent researching and then upgrading your buildings.

Couple of minor issues:

1. Minor races seem to be able to be able to research arcean unique techs. May be others as well, but I seem to always be able to get weather control from a minor then trade that tech to the arceans.

2. Creativity in its current form is a bit on the overpowered side. On some of the techs with a shorter time to research it isn't that big of a deal, but for long research time techs it makes a huge difference. I have often seen a tech with 60-80 turns remaining be finished immediately followed the next turn by immediately finishing 3-4 techs due to overflow. Possible things to change its effectiveness a little is to give either 4 immediate turns of research worth of tech points or 25-50% of the tech's cost whichever is more. This would be more powerful for techs with a low price and less powerful for long research techs.

3. War profiteering gives huge amounts of funding. Haven't checked since beta 3, but with 11% profiteering the profits from starting a single war were almost as much as I was making in taxes.

As I mentioned in another thread:

1) Diplomacy - Unique techs are no longer flagged with *
2) Tech tree and tech details via right click - Unique tech no longer have a racial logo
3) Minors seem to be able to research any unique tech, mostly Arcean noticed (Weather Control for example)
4) Previously untradable techs can now be traded

Probably related to the default tech tree change.

I double-checked the level 3 manufacturing facility for the Thalans, and they don't give any boost over the level 2 structure (this makes sense, as the structure is already as powerful as the industrial sector, and level 3 merely gets the price down to normal). So only the level 3 research structure needs to be given a proper description.

I am concerned about tech trading. Maybe I'm just imagining it, but it seems like everybody was trading techs like mad this version. The end of the weapon trees were researched incredibly early on, making the early and mid games more about industrial production than technology, and defenses are paramount this game - whoever can produce the most ships with proper shielding and weaponry wins. Also, most everybody has all kinds of unique techs - weather control, navigation stations, arenas, healing pools, etc.

I'd like to see more unique techs on the "no trade" list to make the trees feel like they matter, or at least make them much more expensive to trade.

I noticed this too, but then I started up a game without Minor Races (because of the whole issue with the Default tech tree.. and just for something different) and found that there seemed to be a whole hell of a lot less tech trading then.

I've had this one too and already reported it to Stardock. Addiionally, I am still experiencing the "unresponsive game/disappearing turn change button" bug, and invisible Drengin Super Dominator Corvettes.

While this is not really a bug per se, I've also noticed that research has become substantially faster in this Beta, which in my opinion is not a good thing. I noted that one of the things changed according to the change log was how research costs were calculated. Even on very slow research, the research just seems way to fast to be enjoyable. For example, on the "painful" difficulty setting, I didn't even build a warship until I had already achieved photonic torpedos, which was accomplished by researching the missile techs in one burst. The lower techs are not even used because one can research through most of a series and go straight for the more advanced techs. Just my preference of course.

Am I the only one who's having the game crash (no apparent memory issues, about a dozen turns after my first newly designed ships roll off the line)? This has happened to me with the Altarians and twice with the Thalans.

Saving and reloading sometimes puts this off a couple turns, but it still happens. Basically, the game has been unplayable for me since the patch.

Ok, there have been a lot of people campaigning for better minor race AI . . . I guess this is a case of "be careful what you wish for", because the Snathi are doing some empire building now :)

has anybody seen the turn disappearing bug occur again? when i hit the end turn button, the game just sits there and nothing happens. I think its an earlier pathfinding bug that still has not been addressed correctly.

I haven't yet. I thought I had once, but I discovered it was just because I had like 40 constructors en route to various locations, and it ended fairly quickly.
