Weird minor civ action (bug?)

I was playing my first game with the latest beta and i encountered something weird

The Vegans appeared as they usually do saying they took control of a planet yadiyadiyada

On the next turn it said they had researched beyond mortality and were nearing a techological victory and then the next turn it said they transcended mortal kind and basically won a technological victory and promply disapeared from the map.

Was pretty funny, then the game continued as if they were never there

This is a known issue in TA - pirates, Vegans, whatever, appearing with all the techs and then transcending.

yea had this happen to me , but one difference. i talked to them immediatly when they appeared. pormptly traded everything i had to them for all his end game techs . then on that very same turn launched one of my fast troop ships and invaded their planet ,conquered them and went about my buisness, but with tmy new end game techs :]

it pays to have a few troop ships scattered all throuought your empire simply for the above reasons. "new race emergance"

This bug saved my civ in my first TA game, playing as Krynn and with Terrans making my life difficult after a rather bitter war. With original plan of tech-escape gone thanks to the Knife auto-ascending, traded with them for Black Hole Eruptors and managed to hold Terrans in a war-tech stalemate with my fewer-but-shootier ships long enough to get an influence victory. Knife didn't disappear though, at least not until the Terrans and I carved them up (got all my worlds back, but Terrans took the lion's share and thus had a few juicy techs of their own, though thankfully not guns).

In terms of "deliberately unbalancing the game" though, I'd soon like to see the back of it, the regular whack-a-Knife are irritating enough (in a fun, "give me back my xinathium hull plating or else" kind of way) without closing down one of the victory routes.
