TA3D - The Captain's Log

Yuletide Beta Ramblings from Evil Roy's Outdoor Dunny

Degradation in 3D rendering over time - specially in ship design window and fleet battles. saving and quitting and starting again appears to correct it for a while.

this may or may not be connected to:

A weird mini drop down loop created by going into ship design from the planet screen, then back to planet screen and ( or scrolling to another planet) then into ship design again. those with 'insanely poor graphics that deteriorate with time' can see that the main map comes up momentarily before the ship design screen, but then the mini map goes into hyper redraw as it drops downs in a crazy loop behind the ship design screen. interestingly enough, the rate at which the mini map loops also deteriorates with time.

if you buy and building and queue a new building, GNN always announces your purchase, and that you are now building *nothing*. even i gets confused.

if you save an upgraded design over the old design (despite the 'we don't recommend this' window) much weirdness happens (eg no graphic for new design, strange upgrade windows,) ctd's when you build and launch the upgraded design). debug sent.

a special plea from the heart - as the game's aesthetics continues to reach new heights, the old 'circular dotted line' for a constructor's sphere of influence is really starting to stand out like dog's balls.....

merry xmas, happy new year etc etc

i'm having a closer look at the graphics degradation (with my low-end rig, possibly the lowest you can play GC2 with ie PM 1ghz, intel extreme 2, 512 ram), and the deterioration doesn't take long - within about 15 minutes from starting the game, playing around with a medium sized ship in the ship design window will drop from 15fps to 4fps, then down to around 1-2 fps. usually with this rig, fps problems only occur on large+ ships, and only in the battle sequences. anyone else having this issue?
