Executing all "former workers"

Seriously, every time some important leader comes to my planet, they get shot. Is there any way to kill off these wannabe assassins? Or at least stop them from killing people, and starting a war that eventually destroys my civilization.

Nope.

By the way, how do you know when an important leader pays you a visit if he does not get shot?

So, in a way, I guess you're right.
Everytime one visits they get shot, because the only time they visit is when that event happens.

So, the only way to kill off the wannabe assassins would be to kill off the event by modding it out of the xml file.

Ermmmm, some events can be prevented by having good espionage on other AIs. I'm not sure, it this event falls into that category, but it's good idea to have at least moderate (level-2) espionage on your strongest neighbours. The easiest way in DA is to make them go to war, wait a bit for them to waste all money on warships, and then plant some spies on less important tiles. I've had such a spy on aplanet of an evil civ for over a game-year.

That would depend on if the events are truly (code-based, of course) random, or if they are generated by certain influences.

(only your hairdresser, (or in this case, Stardock) would know for sure.)

I would think (hope?) that there would be some link between morale/approval rating on a planet and the likelihood of your people assassinating a visiting leader. So in other words I would hope my people, who love me so much, would never do such a thing!  ;)

They love you, but not perhaps the Dregin ambassador.

I think these types of events are triggered more often when you have a race playing very passive. It's the best way to push them into the fighting ring and stop being a carebear.

Give whatever civ you're playing as luck bonuses an/or choose the Universalists as you political party.

That should end your dilemma.

AFAIK luck has no effect on minor or mega events, or what anomolies you find, or what tiles appear on a planet, or if you get a colonization/ethics event--i'm pretty sure the only thing it does is boost your weapons minimum roll value (so if you have a 50% luck bonus, your weapons will never* roll less than 5, and at 25% you'll never* roll below 2).

*note: you may still observe values of 0 if the ship you attack has good defenses.

what event or events do you have in mind? i'm not challenging you, i've just never observed a connection between espionage and events.

my sense is that it's a little of both. it'd be nice if the devs made some of this stuff a little more transperant, but i'm not about to stop playing over it.

when it happens, load your last auto-save... i think that's about all you can do.

Well, I had maxed out espionage on every single race, so I don't think that was the problem. I was doing one of my tax crackdowns at that time though, so that might have done it...

There is an event that states something along the lines that you made a gesture that, if you had known more about the race, you wouldn't have made it and you pissed them off. I think it's that one that goes off if you don't have any level you of espionage.

that only applies to the one where your ambassador insults a waitress and lowering your crime, raising morale, and i think influence has something to do with this event but the wannabe assasains can't really be stopped.
