Unbelievably overpowered Pirates

I'm doing OK in a a new game, up to medium scale building. I'm average in military strength.

I get a random event - "Pirates! ...etc, etc."

A few turns later, I get another message - "Pirates have Ascension, etc, etc. Won't share with other races".

The problem? Pirate fleets are now RIDICULOUSLY overpowered.

With my "average" military I had a few fleets with missile attack / defense 6. Pirate fleets now have around 570 missile attack / defense.

These stupid pirate fleets have now obliterated EVERY LAST ship / starbase in the galaxy; both mine and AIs.

This can't possibly be intended?

All minors that pop up during the game seem to for some reason get all techs, including the ones meant for tech victories, meaning you can't win a tech victory after the Jagged Knife, Peacekeepers, or Pirates pop up. Or even the damned Vegans or Fundies.

Pirate fleets that spawn from the mega-event are meant to be immensely powerful, and from your description it seems you got that mega-event. Just stop producing military ships, and focus all sliders on social(if you have colonies building any buildings) & research.

The Vegans ascended right in the middle of my own ascension in this game I'm playing now, but they didn't have all the techs. I was able to trade a few techs to them for black hole launchers and a couple of other rather decisive techs (I'd have to go look again to see what they were).

It seemed really odd that they'd so readily part with the BHL.

The pirates are intended to be incredibly hard, yes. However, their attack value seems way too high. I think they've jumped to the end, tech-wise. This really does need fixing, and fast. It will totally ruin a game. The fleets should have an attack around 100 or so. I had them show up in a DA game, and they swept the galaxy pretty much clean, although I was able to pick off stragglers with my fleets.

Mega Events are meant to be...Mega. With hard work and focusing you can beat back those pirates...jut like the Peace Keepers and Dread Lords. If you let the the DL stew for a while and get dug in, you won't ever complain about pirates ever again. Pirates don't invade planets with uber troops and 3k attack on ships.

The problem isn't that the Pirates are 'too' hard, it's that they are suffering/benefiting from the same bug as the rest of the minor races. When the pirates showed up in DA, they were way ahead of you in tech, but not so far that you had to research every offensive and defensive tech in the game to beat them. I seem to recall fleet attack values of about 135, which was quite a challenge.

Anyhow, you can take advantage of the pirates by building very fast colony ships and transports and trying to sneak in around them. I actually found the cat-and-mouse action of attempting to colonize a planet guarded by three or four fleets of slower ships quite amusing.

The problem with the pirate mega event has been talked about before. It hasnt changed. I have never gotten it but from what i've read it pretty much ends the game, well at least ends the posibility of a military conquest. That is I guess until you can finally build a couple of ships to sloooooowy get rid of them.

I was just thinking, that to make the event a little more pleasant to deal with, whenever the event comes up can the game produce a pirate fleet that is exactly equal to the sum of all ships already in the game? That is, the pirates will get an exact copy of all of your ships, plus those of all AI players. This will make them quite powerful but not impossible to deal with. On top of that it wont matter when this happens in the game. They will have huge numbers but their power will be par with everyone else. I guess they would just have much larger fleet sizes or something or like twice the highest playes logistics ability.

Might even make the event fun

Anyone think this is a good idea or doable??

It would be okay, but what about at the end of the game, where you have a bunch of ships with black hole launchers, death rays, and such. You would get annihilated.

It would still be an even-up fight. At the moment, the pirates show up in ships that outclass your own.

This is why I don't play with Mega Events. They're supposed to shake up the galaxy, but usually all they ever do is make it harder to play the way I want to, and I end up fighting one super-race instead of the AIs.

Plus the AIs have ABSOLUTLY NO CLUE how to deal with these super-enemies and just get wiped off the map by me or them.

Plus the mega-spies event can cripple the entire game. >_>

The pirates should be good and mega-eventish but not super-ultra-mega-deluxe-uber-unbeatable-event so they should be mangable with a couple of big ships but not like they destroy all and there is no match aganist them from anyone

I haven't played DA, and I haven't been able to play a stable game of TA yet, but I always enjoyed it when the pirates arrived. Granted, they are VERY powerful - but not impossible. It forced me to research a bunch of technologies and pump out a bunch of SUPERShips to dominate the universe with after - it allows these superships to lvl up. In my case, the pirates have always popped up in the end of my tech tree and when I have my colonies well established. So, I can usually take out all of the other rases if I choose to, but haven't. I suppose if I found the pirates early on I would get annoyed as well.

I have just ran into these overpowered super pirates. I shifted my empire into making cheap noo defence torpedo fighters and thinned them out after an unbeliveable long time.
