Dread Lords

Playing as the Dread Lords

I think that Stardock should add the Dread Lords as one of the playable races and as one of the opponents you have to choose from with there own technology tree with simaliar techs called something different and developing at different rates does anyone agree

Heh, I am amused by the image of Rulerdude sitting at his computer for 16 minutes, anxiously awaiting someone to reply to his suggestion...

I will rise to the bait. I think they are better as a non-playable game element, simply because of their place in the GalCiv setting that Brad has created; ie: that they are an ancient race that is far more advanced than any of the current races out there. If they returned in force, they would effectively wipe everyone else out.

Who knows though, maybe he will integrate them further in some future expansion to be even more robust in-game, kind of like the Orions were in MOO2... although the Dark Avatar campaign did a pretty good job of that already.

I asked the same question.

It would be nice if you could flag a non-campaign game as a Dread-Lords match, though....

It would be useless to have them as a playable faction. The game wouldn't go anywhere, they'd eradicate everyone in less than 100 turns. It would be like playing against god, there's no fun in that. You've got to remember, they're tech (ala their weapons and defense) are better than even the most advanced weapons available in the game, and they START with those techs. The game would always have the same outcome, Dread Lords win.

Perhaps. BUT! What if you had a scenario where you were the Dreadlords and all of the races were developed? To add on, the races would be done with the colony rush and they would all declare war on you. If this took place on an immense galaxy you would have to be a tough Dreadlord to win in 100 turns!

For their technology, they would be like the Iconians. Except their improvements would be 10 times stronger. They have to pump out those big ships somehow.

I think it would be fun to play the Dread Lords with a time limit - X turns (adjusted for galaxy size) to conquer everything before the Arnor swoop in and end the game.

Or, to play against them and try to survive until the turn limit.

Difficulty level would determine how much tech the other races start the game with.
