Being in Toronto, and a very snowy Toronto at that, there are very diverse NFL fans. Most of us hope Buffalo crashes and burns though, because we want the team to move here. The 1st international team. I'm not holding my breath though.

"The Toronto Bills" doesn't make much sense, but then again neither do "The L.A. Lakers" (they were originally in Michigan, land of 1,000 lakes... or is it 10,000? whatever).

Why discuss this when you could talk about something else, like curling?   

I think the sports reporters in this city like to drum up the idea every so often. It sells papers. Actually there has been serious proposals to acquire a NFL franchise. Don't see it happening though. Competition with the CFL notwithstanding.

When ESPN hires announcers who throw in a few "eh's?" and "for Pete's sake" every now and again, then you know there might be interest in a Canadian team.

I think Mexico City will be the first international team. They are pushing hard into the latino community and have even started playing games there to see the popularity. Now, if the Bills move there...

The Mexico City Bills! Makes about as much sense as the Tennessee Oilers before they changed to Titans.

Why would anyone think the bills would move?
It would take a ton of money, a lot of time, and a seriously messed up owner to get the bills to move out of buffalo. Even if they suck, they've got a history there, and no team moves simply because of a losing record.
If you want to think about teams that *might* move, you're looking at the Miami Dolphins first and foremost. They've got a long history of losing, and they are one of the least profitable NFL franchises. My money's that they'd go long before the Bills move.
Oh ,and international NFL? Don't hold your breath. The NFL have been trying for years to take football international, and it never works out right. They've failed so many times that they're taking a nice long break, seeing as permanent teams never seem to work out.

It would have to be the Bills. Having a team in Toronto and Buffalo would have serious ramifications for Buffalo. For many fans in southern Ontario, Buffalo is the place to go to see your favorite team. That revenue would dry up if there was also a team in T.O.

Toronto does have the financial means to get it done if all pieces fell into place, though. Largest city, economic capital, and all that.

i've watched a few games on ESPN-Latino at my bar -- "los Vaqueros de Dallas" are one of the more popular teams.

i think when you want to talk about something being "international", there's a big difference between every country and countries in the same region. NAFTA has brough the U.S., Canada and Mexico closer together than they've ever been before. while i don't expect to see international teams soon, i don't think it's totally impossible. it's just that the NFL is a different model than the Olympics and world cup, where teams are competing for their nations. American sports leagues play on regional pride and individual affinities for teams; regionalism/sub-nationalism is a counter-trend to globalization, and i think in time we could see major international sports leagues being a little more common (and not organizationally modeled on baseball or soccer, either). i wouldn't claim to predict a particular time table, i'm just saying that international culture is changing in a way that might lend to better success of international leagues in the future.

I agree with dystopic on this. Canada and even Mexico has a better chance for an NFL team then does the European adventures that the League has tried. Simply for the fact that the boarder areas have always gotten the ablity to see games for free. Ah, reminds me of an influence starbase!
