TA Beta3c - Suddenly, Everybody Hates Me...

I was playing a game as the Korx and everything is going swimmingly. The settings were Large/Tough with 9 races. I'm just now getting my economy under control after the colony rush when all of the sudden the Iconians decide to declare war on me. That's fine, as they're good and I'm evil. A couple turns later two races that I haven't even met yet (Torians and Drengin) decide that it's time to end my existence.

This is the first game I've ever played that three civs decide to go to war with me in any game I've played on TA. Could it be just because I'm the Korx or something else? I had just completed the Mercenary Build Achievement if that matters.

One thing I have noticed in the most recent releases of the TA beta is that the AI is more active paying other races to wage wars for them. Also, alliances seem to be working now and the result is that widespread conflict involving most of the races at the same time are likely to occur... which is great if you ask me (unless like in your case you're in the receiving end of the aggression) :)

Sounds like the Drath are up to their usual shenanigans.

I don't know, maybe you are really annoying. In fact, *I* declare war on you.

ONLY KIDDING!!! (I couldn't resist it)

I've had games that have gone that way too. Maybe it is a "perfect storm" sort of thing where everything just happens to conspire against you at once.

I blame the Drath. Any game that they're in turns into a war-fest - sometimes against me, sometimes against other people. The closer you are to them, the more likely they'll pay someone else to smash you.

Yeah, I am playing as the Korx with the Drath in the game and I can't go a couple turns without someone saying that someone else is paying them to attack me. I'm pretty sure its the Drath because I haven't had this problem before.

Well, at least I built the mercenary training ground so I get some cash out of it.

I never seen the AI purpose to me an alliance, or try to pay me to attack someone else. I have however, seen them beg for stuff when being beaten up badly.

What I want to know is, at some point, is the AI going to be able to offer a player an alliance, or offer to pay you to declare war on someone?

*coughDRATHcough*

Those buggers pay everyone and their mother to attack everyone else. As I'm playing the Korx it's GREAT (mercenaries) unless they're being paid to attack me. I have noticed that the Drath make things a little buggy. Like in the beginning of my game the Iconians (waaaay the other side of a gigantic map, don't have the range to meet them yet) keep telling me they're getting paid off by a powerful civ to attack so and so. To top things off, I'm in the bottom middle corner and the Drath are up and to my right (Iconians are up and to the left, far side) not too terribly far away. I met the Drath second or third, but they shouldn't have had the range to meet the Iconians yet, either. I guess a wormhole could have happened, but why would the Iconians be telling a race they'd never met their war plans? To top things off the Drengin declared war on me (telling me they'd been paid to up front) before they even MET me. I'd say the Drath super ability definitely needs some tweaking.

It's not just the wars. In an earlier beta I was getting a notice of an influence takeover of a mining base between two races I hadn't met yet. I still occasionally see notices of Galactic Achievements for races I haven't met. The TA game needs to do a better job of blocking all notices of wars, diplomacy issues etc. that involve races you haven't officially made contact with.

This does need fixing, especially since you can use these notices as a cheese way to meet the races.

I've made research & economic treaties by talking to a AI that announces who is he going to war with, and even after i done those treaties i don't have them on my relations screen. Pretty funny, you have treaties yet apparently you have never met.

Yeah I abused this bug by selecting 'talk to' when a race I never met tells me some info and then selling them all the tech I can. ;-P
