Or how far is the back story itied to the game?

I was wondering something regarding racial dispositions and their relationships towards other races.

Let's start with a game, say, The Iconians vs the Yor. Will their initial relationship be hostile from the very start (since we know they HATE each other) or will they start at "Neutral" and progressively work their relationship towards friendliness or enemies? Same goes for Terran vs Drengin, Torian vs Drengin, Iconian vs Yor...etc.

Is the AI engine programmed to automatically recognize a hostile race from the beginning when it detects one? As in, some sort of knee-jerk reflex "Yor sees Iconian - Yor attacks Iconian" due to their common history of strife and extermination? Or not? There could be some sort of setting "Racial history - ON/OFF" to add some remote sense of RPG to the story...

In my games, the Yor and the Iconians always seem to end up somehow buddying up. Same with Drengin and Korath, due to similar ethics in their case I suppose. Drengin and Torians always start on each other, but then they're both quite belligerent anyway so may not be anything racial. I seem to remember once seeing a diplomatic "minus" for "lingering racial grudge" in a game I played a while ago, can anyone confirm this?

Since I like the roleplaying element, I think something like this would be quite cool, though I prefer the idea of it hurting diplomacy rather than anything automatic, which might end up making games predictable. Also, according to background the Drengin have a grudge of one kind or another against (off the top of my head) the Korath, Torians, Arceans and Terrans, over and above their general evilness - quite a lot of automatic enemies.

I remember '-Lingering racial grudge' from the Drengin when playing Torians.

Yor and Iconians allied? Weird. It happened in one of my games, but that was because the Yor got the random event that made them good.

I play as the Yor all the time, and i rarely fight the iconians.

I think its the fact that they never have a good military and they are scared of us.
