Economic Treaty Option

Can someone please clue me in as to what I need to research / why I do not have the Economic Treaty option available on on my diplomacy screen when speaking with another race
so I can include it in an offer? I was hoping to use it in an offer of a two-way economic treaty, but it only appears as an option for the other race, not my own.
Thank you

You can only have one outgoing treaty (research or economy), so you should check if you already established an economic treaty with another race.

Darn... see, this IS the kind of information i wish we could access straight from gameplay. Miscellaneous conditions and special "features" aren't obvious in some places.

So, that's exactly why i couldn't offer or ask for another Research treaty with many or all & each Minors along with a key-Major attempt. ;)

Mind you, i'm still at some early stage of grasping the whole scope of things as i may discover hints or clues about plenty more yet.

Zyxpsilon, you certainly shouldnt feel bad about being overwhelmed or missing important pieces of data when just starting out in this game... I've yet to really start turning up the difficulty because it seems like every time i play, i learn something new, or go to the forums and find new info there.

The game is very involved with a lot of depth, however, I will say its comfortably less involved than say, Civilization IV where I feel like I have absolutely no clue as to what is going on with anything.

Anyways, yeah, lots of important stuff eludes us as non-veteran players... the game does have a somewhat steep learning curve.

But I still love you GalCivII, even if you whore me out like tricks outside of a lakers game.

Another piece of information you might want to know. Breaking a treaty has long term negative relations with other races. They don't trust you when you break a treaty (atleast when you do so when starting a war with them).

If you gave a treaty to a minor race, then I recommend that you pay a major to destroy them, thereby freeing your treaty.

Wow, quick response on this question, thanks for the help.

Can't find any way to break my existing Econmic Treaty, sounds like I need to declare war on that race to break it. Seems like there should be a way to break a treaty without having to decalre war.
Thanks again!

Like DivineWrath said, pay someone to exterminate them - it's a BIG diplo hit to attack in that situation.

While AIs are really defensive about their econ treaties, they are much less possessive about their research treaties. Start early, and trade (or outright buy) any treaties you can. You get free research points, and more importantly, no one else does. It's not uncommon for me to have everyone's research treaty by the middle of the second year :D

There needs to be a cancel treaty option, and there needs to be better AI on treaties.

Thanks again.

I hope you all have a great holiday.

I could be wrong but i don't think you get your treaty BACK if the receiver is destroyed. I think its just gone. ( ? )

I don't think the treaty concept would work if they could just be canceled. You have to consider cafefully who you give it to, if anyone.

I agree. If there were no global repercussions, then it would remove any strategic thinking about making and breaking treaties. Treaties would just auto-cancel when you attacked someone, and nobody would care. The current design involves thinking ahead about what races you'll be up against in the late game, who's going down early, and whether you can survive being ganged up on. It adds something of a gambling element to the game, which I think is interesting.

I have two more questions about the economic/research treaties:

1. It is also possible to have a one-way treaty (only I give my economic treaty to someone, or otherwise round). Does the "direction" has an effect on the diplomatic penalty if war is declared, e.g., only the reciever of the treaty gets the penalty if he attacks?

2. Let´s say race A has an economic treaty with race B and an alliance with race C.
Race C is now attacked by race B. Does race A now also gets the penalty if he declares war on race B because of the alliance?

1) Yes, you are only penalized if you attck someone that you GAVE your treaty to, not if you get it from someone. I only recenty discovered this from reading another thread.

2) I believe so, if race A also declares war. But i havent had that happen.
