mission help

This is embarrasing for a gamer like me. I have beat the dread lord campaign and am an expert(in my opinion) gc1 gamer. But I can't get past mission 2 of the dark avatar campaign, on CAKEWALK. Please help me.

Which one is that? is that the one where you need to place spies? i think on that one, if you're too good you cant finish it. That is the AI has to have enough structures built for you to use the spies ON.

No, This one is where the terrans are spying on you and you have to kick their butts. My problem is that my planets have low population and the terrans take them over with hardly a fight, or the tholans declare war on me and I die anyway.
