Unbelieveable

Playing the Torians (Evil) we were doing well with 5 other races in a poorly populated gigantic galaxy. We were #1 in research by a wide marge and #2 in military strength. Things were looking good.

Troubles 1st appeared in the form of the Peacekeepers, a race or do-gooder trouble makers. Unfortunately they were also at least 50 years advanced in military tech, everything we threw at them was easily swatted away. All my military and nodes were quickly annihilated.

Later...After adjusting research towards eliminating the Peacekeepers the Dread Lords decided to make an appearance in a distant solar system. Fortunately they have stayed away.

Later...Still trying to advance our tech so we can eliminate those annoying Peacekeepers, we are no longer a military threat and have fallen a distant second in research. Then if things cant get any worse 30% of our planets submit to those Jagged Knife terrorists. Things are beginning to look bleak.

A few years later...as if things cant get any worse a pirate invasion, now we are a least equal in military strength with all the other races, but our finances are becoming dire...

...and the final stake in the Torian empire...a recession. Already in financial dire straights, the recession has doomed us into history.

Unbelievable .

Jeez, I wish I would get half of those events in at least one of my games.

Last time pirates showed up on my door step was around the time I first got the original DL.

Never even had the peacekeeper event.

You're lucky, I either get a complete win or just get slaughtered by the civilization I haven't been taking notice of.

Very interesting co-in-ki-dink! Why don't I get a mega-event where Pirates are actually powerful. I mean I got pirates once or twice but they are 5 attack 12 armour frigates while I have about 40 attack frigates. I've always regarded pirates as a minor annoyance and even that because they manage to get one of my trade ships every once in a while.

This is why I always keep several transports on my planets. That way if the Jagged Knife show up, I can send a quick force to retake all my vital planets, as well as snag other races' JK-bogarted planets close to my borders. Then it is usually a simple matter to slowly eliminate the non-vital JK planets one by one, assuming I don't have the military might stockpiled to take them on already. I can usually eliminate the JK before they get more than a handful of ships out of their slips.

Damn That Almost happened to me once. Except it was Pirates, and dread lords. Those events really suck on medium galaxyies.

That's the MINOR event pirates. The Mega-Event pirates sends thirty or so 300+ attack fleets in to wipe every ship, trade route and starbase from the face of the heavens. It's your cue to either use cheesy hyperwarp transits and invade neighboring defenseless planets (in the one turn your transport can exist before being destroyed), or to enjoy a hundred turns of peace on your way to an easy tech victory.

Happens WAY too often to me.

I am very jealous!

I never had the PeaceKeepers.

I never had the Dread Lords.

I never had the Pirates mega event. (And the weaker event only once.)

I only had the Jagged Knife once. And that was at a time that they actually helped me more than made my life more difficult. They were an excellent way to catch up on technology with the rest of the galaxy when taking back my planets...

A recessions? You can have an economic recession? never had that either...

I'd kill (figuratively) for a game like yours, a challenge at last!

Maybe you should turn on mega events then.

Really annoying: Dread Lords show up and then disappear again!!! i was hoping for a challenge with my 500+ attack ships!

you guys must be playing on easy or normal setting I always play on hard or tough even than its still to easy.I usally have to bribe the other races to go to war with each other.And the Jagged Knife only shows up after you destroy to minor races.

Early on in my last game I got the pirates event and had all of my ships wiped out. Their ships had 50+ power and I was still reasearching Lasers III. It sucked. That same game the Jagged Knife also took over 20% of my planets and so liberating them was impossible as there were still pirates out there. I had no chance whatsoever and I turn off the technology victory condition when I play. So I just gave up instead of dying a slow death as there were better games to be had.

In GalCiv 1, I had a game like that...set in a small or medium galaxy, with the Drengin and Arceans. I'd just colonized a planet I needed, and got an event - good choice was -30 or 40% PQ, neutral was -10% or more, and evil was about as high as it would go, so I picked evil...and naturally, one evil pick dropped me to evil, at which point the Arceans declared war on me for being mean. I barely managed to get my military to the point that they were willing to accept a peace treaty, and the next turn they found a Ranger.

No mega events, but this was before even Altarian Prophecy.
