Never recover enemy techs after invasion?

Is there a way to mod this?

I find that recovering techs after battle can really destabilize the whole research process. This is especially true in large galaxies with lots of worlds, where a relatively small section of conflict going badly for one side could result in a huge tech jump for the other.

It also means more time spent bulking up to prevent tug-of-war battles that could easily homogenize our respective tech trees. Thing is, I LIKE that kind of rough stuff, but I would prefer to leave gaining new techs up to the scientists on both sides.

Every tech in the xml files can have a sub tag called "CanBeStolen".  If you're looking to mod, you could change the value of that tag to 0 for each tech.

We do not currenly have a game setting that allows you to turn "Tech Stealing" off (like we do for "Tech Trading") on the galaxy setup screen.  It's not a bad idea though, I'll toss the idea around the office and see what everyone thinks.

Yes please.

I really dislike tech stealing. Stealing Black Hole cannons is a bit lame, when I haven't had researched anything in that tier. ;)

Oh I get it. I think the game assumes "CanBeStolen 1", so only the few techs where the tag would be 0 have a tag for CanBeStolen. That would explain why I didn't find it earlier. Thanks for pointing this out. :) I'll make the changes to TechTree.xml, and see what happens.

Setting all techs to 0 will probably disable spies stealing too, but I can live with that as a mod. If this is a good enough idea to add to the setup screen, it might be necessary to use a different check after battle than for spying.

So I tossed it around the office and no one had a problem with putting it in.  So we implemented it.  Now that it's in the latest beta, did you guys notice it was there?   :D

Yes, actually.

Thanks.

I'll enjoy playing with it.

Any chance it can work itself into DA as well? And maybe even DL? ;)

Yeah! It's great! I just have a question... for stupid old me...

Just to make sure, since the box only says 'Tech Stealing', when it is ticked, is that no tech stealing or yes tech stealing. Just making sure

I'd have to say that by checking the box you ENABLE tech stealing. I played a game with it checked and I've received many techs via invasions.

When was the most recent release? SDC hasn't let me know of any updates this week to the Beta.

There was no new updates this week.  As I said, it's in the beta that's already out (4C).
