Is the campaign worth playing for its story and missions?

I don't have much time to play games, but when I do I play Galciv 2. I have only played metaverse games, but lately I have been a little curious about the campaign. So I am considering to start the campaign for my next game.

But I am a little unsure, so I ask all of you: Are campaign missions fun? And is the story worth the effort of playing through all the missions?

Well the campagain missions are basicly all the same, conquer the enemy. There are a few different missions like reach a seactor to escape or something but unless you want to play scirpted missions with give you some text each time you finish a mission then its ok.

I personally found the DA missions to be a bit more fun than the original, mostly because the design was vastly improved so it's not so much a series of sandbox missions tied together with plot points. However, I've never done more than a couple of missions from each campaign, I have the most fun creating custom ships (and now ship styles), custom races, and playing Huge (or with TA Immense) universe games. Just personal preference I suppose (and note I'm not very good at this game either ^.^ I usually just play at normal :P).

The Campaign is worth it for the story, which unravels links as you go on. Like when Korath Spore weapon attacks a creature, the creature is converted into a 'crystal', killing it and the spore. Of course, the Korath don't know what to do with these so they just so they just destroy/dispose of them while occupying their spored worlds. In TA, it's been mentioned that the Dread Lords harness some kind of special 'crystal' that gives them the awesome power to build their 2000+ attack ships. See the connection?
