Hi all and welcome to round 5!!

Congrats to the Domination of Death for a well played victory in round 4!! :CONGRAT:

Everyone please welcome our six new players, Defcon13, Velkyn Kyil, GalenEvil, Almaric Iztok Bitenc and RexDaddy. I have placed you guys into teams. Domination (team D) please welcome GalenEvil and RexDaddy, Eternal Villainy please welcome Velkyn Kyil and Iztok Bitenc, Blade Runners please welcome Defon13and Crusaders please welcome Almaric. Captains, make sure to Pm your new players their core passwords please. (I still can't believe i forgot you Defcon...sorry again mate.)

We lost Vilgan, Doombringer and Drengin in round 4. I hope to see these guys playing with us again soon. (Noticulus and Xei Win Toh have abstained from playing till further notice.)

Ok, onto round 5.

We are after an Influence Victory in a Tiny Galaxy with 4 Opponents.

Settings are,
Habitable planets - Abundant
Number of planets - Common
Number of stars - Uncommon
Star Density - Tight Clusters
Anomolies - Common
Asteroids - Uncommon
Tech Rate - Fast
Minors - Random/Enabled in DL

Disable Tech Trading
Blind Exploration (Check the box. No seeing AI sphere's of influence.)
Allow Mega Events
Disable Super Abilities
All Victory's Enabled
Allow Surrenders

Round 5 ends Midnight 13th January 2008.

Two slight rule changes for round 5.
Ties for fastest game will now be broken by score. So there will only be 4 points given out for fastest game, regardless of the number of games with equal time.

Ties for high score will also be limited to the 4 points. These will be broken by game speed. In the event of double ties (equal speed and score) points will be given, regardless of number. (These rules are not yet official and may be omitted from the round. It has had discussion but no closure. If there is no objection than these rules will apply for this round.)

We will use the Round 5 thread for our discussions, plus the submission's. Looking back through one thread is far easier than looking back through many threads and posts.

For any discussions on rules please post in the MVL Rulebook thread.

Also there is a discussion about our inclusion into the AltMeta here, The MVL and the AltMeta. Please watch this thread for more discussion soon.

I am really looking forward to this challenge and to the rounds ahead. Good luck to everyone and a big welcome to our new players, i hope you enjoy the league. As always i hope you enjoy your games and i hope you all have safe and happy holidays.

Question: I want to submit a score to the MVL, but I also want to "reload" that game and better my score for the regular metaverse later, separate from the league. So, if I post a screenshot of it here, will that suffice? Because on the 13th, the scorekeeper won't be able to verify it if I repost the score.

i think in fairness to my team, i'm going to sit out next round. life's really busy right now and i've been finding GC2 kind of boring and tedious lately. i'll probably come back after a while, but for now i have a lot of other things i need or want to focus on.

i do have a game for this round. i will probably submit it soon.

Affirmative. I exploited it heavily that game just to see how it would turn out. Won it pretty easily. Makes for a nice score, but I can't submit it for a league game :)

Hey all...I'm posting from my work pc. My home pc's video card fried on me and I haven't completed my game yet for Team A. I would recomend that Team A use another person's game in my place.

We really don't have rules defined in the rules thread relating to this however we basically had quite a bit of discussion of this in the AltMeta MVL thread.

My understanding of the discussions and agreements that we had of this in the AltMeta MVL thread is that this is perfectly acceptable. However, one point of order is that for purposes of submission time this need to be considered to have been submitted at the last possible moment. In other words this submission should be considered the last game submitted to the league. If there are multiple games submitted by captains to avoid non-submission then they all tie for last place submission time.

Anyone have any major problem with this wrinkle?

If there are 4 submissions then nothing needs to be done. Currently Team A has 3 games submitted to the league and TheGreatEmperor has a game that fits the round's criteria posted to the MV but not yet submitted to the League. There are still three days left for him to submit and in all likelyhood he will. If he does then Team A is all set.

I have 5 paragraphs describing what is done in the case of a non-submittal but reading them again I do see a hole in what's written. Basically what is written is that the first choice for a replacement game is in the case of a pre-announced non-submission where a random teammate is designated to play the replacement game by the commissioner or vice commissioner.

In the case of no advance notice of the non-submission a replacement game is randomly selected from any "extra" games that fit the rounds criteria already posted to the metaverse by other members of the team.

The case that I negelected to mention in the rule thread is the case where the person that didn't submit a game happens to have a game already posted to the metaverse that fits the rounds criteria. Clearly if such a game exists, a game played by the correct player should be the first choice for a replacement game because in fact it's not even really a replacement game.

This has actually been done previously so we do have precedent. This has also been discussed in the ALtMeta MVL thread. The only need in this case is the random selection of the game in the case the player has more than one such game. The point is that if the player that didn't submit a game actually has a qualifying game posted to the MV but just not submitted to the league then this game should obviously be the first choice for a "replacement game".

Once the round is over I will rework this into the rule thread, hopefully without too much additional confusion.

The whole point of this long winded explanation is that even if TGE doesn't happen to submit his game to the league the first and only legitimate choice for a replacement game is the game that he has posted to the MV. However if anyone objects to this then I do have a 1 year backup game that I would love to have a chance of being randomly selected as one of Team A's submissions. ;p

One reason I was submitting it now was for submission time, because I did not know of that rule. So while its aggravating at the moment, it does not seem entirely unreasonable.
