Two slight rule changes for round 5.
Ties for fastest game will now be broken by score. So there will only be 4 points given out for fastest game, regardless of the number of games with equal time.

Ties for high score will also be limited to the 4 points. These will be broken by game speed. In the event of double ties (equal speed and score) points will be given, regardless of number. (These rules are not yet official and may be omitted from the round. It has had discussion but no closure. If there is no objection than these rules will apply for this round.)

We will use the Round 5 thread for our discussions, plus the submission's. Looking back through one thread is far easier than looking back through many threads and posts.

For any discussions on rules please post in the MVL Rulebook thread.

Also there is a discussion about our inclusion into the AltMeta here, The MVL and the AltMeta. Please watch this thread for more discussion soon.

I am really looking forward to this challenge and to the rounds ahead. Good luck to everyone and a big welcome to our new players, i hope you enjoy the league. As always i hope you enjoy your games and i hope you all have safe and happy holidays.

/Edit\ And yes a ruling in the Rulebook could help with this plus i will edit the OP so it is clear that once a game is posted in the round thread it is official.
End of quote

Yes I'll add this. However it's something that will probably be added as a clause in some sentance in a paragraph about the whole submission process. It's not something that will probably jump out at someone and there will still be a need to let new folks know about it.

I see the Rulebook as more of a detailed reference on the rules where everything is covered but in many cases requires a careful reading to find the subtle ramifications of the rules. More like a lawyers reference as opposed to a simple "how to" guide. But yes it will be added somewhere.

will someone from Team C (FireBender or otherwise) please make sure Almaric is aware of all this; I'm sure he'll check this thread eventually, but just in case.

I've sent Amalric a PM filling him in on this, and send him the password to our protected forum on The Galactic Core.
End of quote

lol. I already sent him one about 4 hours ago.

Please check it out and leave your thoughts here Welcome to the MVL! before I make a final version to post here on the GC Forums.

Very excellently done. One suggestion is to strike the harrassment sentance. It's not that it's not true that we wouldn't tolerate any such behavior, it's just that to my knowledge there has never been any such behavior, there is no expectation of such behavior occuringand we wouldn't want to give anyone the impression that there ever has been any such thing to be concerned about.

Another point could be to add that you haven't offically joined a team until you submit your first game or perhaps signed in at the the Core. I did think we wanted to have one extra confirmation step just to have some assurance that folks will follow through on their desire to join.

Finally it's good to have the link to the Core but links to the main MVL threads should be provided as well.

On a totally different topic, how can you stand the advertising content links that pervade the entire Tyranny of Evil website? That's just awful. You do know that you can have a Tyranny of Evil private forum or even a whole directory of private forums if you'd like for free at the Core don't you? That advertising would just drive me crazy.
End of quote

Ah, yeah, I can see where you are coming from on the harassment point. Maybe just leaving that players can contact one of the Captains or MVL Administration with concerns will be enough.

Yeah, adding the game submission is easy enough to do. We've talked a little about it when we were discussing incorporating the MVL into the Alt-Meta but signing up at the Core, while very highly encouraged, was never deemed to be a necessary part of joining the MVL.

Actually, I had never noticed the ads until this morning when I checked that thread as a guest. Its probably why none of us have ever seen it, those ads and links don't appear for Tyranny members, only Guests. Forums at the Core is something to talk to Neilo about however, not me.

Correct, the Core should not really be a requirement per se but it could be one of a menu list of options that a new player could use to confirm their participation.

Clearly the best confirmation is the submission of a game, that's a pretty definite indication that they will be participating. Certainly someone that goes to the trouble to register at a new site and gain password access to a private team forum has also given a pretty good indication of future participation. Perhaps another option would be for the new player to check-in with a post on their new teams thread here to verify that they've received their team assignment and are ready to join in. The one downside of this is that I'm not sure all teams have maintained much use of their team threads here.

In any case I do believe we should have a range of actions the new player can take to "confirm" that he at least received his team assignment and his new team can count on his presence.

Hey All, I did get FireBender's private messages and I will be joining the private forums for Team C here in a bit. Thanks for clearing up the submission process. I did play my first game pretty much as soon as I was assigned to the team. What can I say, CGII *IS* my lunch break at work!
I made the mistake of submitting my first game on this thread. I also got FireBender's message that it won't be regarded as my offically submitted game. I don't want to be a source of contention if that rule was written somewhere and I just missed it. I don't want anyone to feel cheated. I just got carried away.
Thanks again for letting me in the league. I am having a lot of fun playing styles and under sircumstances that I have never tried before. (Who would have thought that I would like playing in a tiny universe?)

haha, its ok Amalric, get in touch with your team and we have agreed that you should be allowed to play another game for this Round. Again, welcome to the MVL!

Just a reminder to everyone who has not done so already to please vote here on the MVL Vote on Tie Breaks We are trying to make sure we have a general consensus and so far we have heard from 11 players, or almost half of the MVL.

Hi!
Iztok, firstly great to hear from you in one of our League threads, i hope it is a sign of your possible interest in the League.
End of quote

As first: thank you all for reviewing my random suggestions! Before posting them I just quickly skimmed through the league rules and havent't noticed the rule about requiered difficulty level. I appologize.

Regarding my interest in the league I admit I haven't been keen for that, because I've been intensely preparing for another AR-only Stars! game. But recently I've been notified it will constist mostly of intermediate players with a possible beginner, so I opted myself out. I haven't played the Alternate Reality race in any game, but so haven't most others, and in given harsh conditions an several dozens of tesbeds I've run with the AR I'd just have too big an advantage. Bottom line: I can participate in your league.

But it seems you already have filled all the free positions. Please send me a message when you'll need a new or replacement player.

BR, Iztok

We could always make 6 players per team and create a new team next round if enough people join.

Woah! Nice one, Motti! Though we have a 4 year 17K up our sleeve.

There may be a problem here. This is my game and I'm getting a Metaverse Error 12 upon trying to post it. I've started another map, so we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

End of quote

Looks like that bridge has been crossed. I started a new map after patching DA with 1.80g3. It posted just fine.

I have heard nothing from thebutterfly since this round started, and I think Silverbeacher's team also has someone MIA at the moment? If about three weeks have passed since the start of the round and neither has been heard from, we'd be more than happy to welcome Iztok to the team. :)

All valid ideas. Though of course having uneven teams does not affect the league a great deal. We can certainly get you into a team if you would like Iztok, that's no problem at all.

As Kzinti said there may be a few MIA's already so as opposed to my normal random placement i would place you, randomly still, into a team with a suspected no-show. I know we have a long time to go in this round still, and if that suspected player does indeed show, then no harm is done we can support a 6 man team as easily as we have been doing 5 man teams.

Does anyone see any issue with this?

I'd love to have you in the League mate, your insight into the game could give us a few ideas, certainly for our inclusion into the AltMeta....Welcome!!

Eh, no harm, no "fowl". It rolled off of me like water off of a duck's back. It's not like you were taking a "cheep" shot at me. Where the heck are all of these bird puns coming from??? I better quit typing before I lay an egg on here.  :p

Actually we have had 6 players in a team in round 3 I think it was, which was before we reorganized and created a new team and held a draft.

There is no issue with having 6 people on a team to accommodate new players. We do have a rule that we should never start a round with any team more than 5 players or less than 4 but our scoring methods work just fine for 6 players. There is no issue in having a new player randomly assigned to a team causing that team to go to six players, however clearly all teams should be at 5 before any team goes to 6. There is a rule requirement that no team have more than 1 player greater than any other team but 6 or even 7 if the need occurs is no issue.

As far as scoring we have the situation covered but just to remind folks all of our team bonuses are based on averages so the number of players isn't an issue. As far as "base score" only 4 games count. If a team has 5 players then only 4 games count if a team has 6 players then again only 4 games count for base score. This was where we had a slight amount of confusion in round 3 although we did straighten it out fairly quickly. One other point was that all games of the correct victory are eligible for all bonuses both individual and team.

This is exactly the correct thing to do. As I pointed out above we have had 6 man teams before. The only ramification is that if by the end of the round we still have all teams full at 5 players and at least one team at 6 players then we will need to add another team and probably hold a draft as well. However this is a good thing. Also having someone of Iztok's statue in the League can only be a major benefit. :)

I'm here, just not very much lately. Thank you all for taking the time and effort to work so dilligently toward nailing this loose end down.

Also, thank you Ghostwes for putting us on the scoreboard. I will submit a game this round, but at this rate I may end up sliding my score under the door at 11:59...

A quick update on the progress of the MVL Tiebreak Vote.

So far 14 people have voted. I've updated the OP of the thread with the current running total which will be updated periodically. We still have plenty of time until the start of Round 6 but please encourage all those that haven't yet voted to do so.

I want to eplicitly thank ghostwes for putting in an abstention as opposed to simply not voting. That certainly is a legitimate option if you truly are undecided or simply really just don't care which way it gets decided.

Anyway if you haven't yet voted please cast your vote at the MVL Tiebreak Vote thread.

Thanks, guys - coming from a couple of veterans like yourselves, that is quite a compliment. That was actually my first Metaverse submission ever, though I had started a non-MVL game prior to that (which I'm now trying to finish before the next round starts...). I've been playing normal games (is that sandbox?) for months, but finally succumbed to Metaverse envy and decided to give it a try.
