Early Access to Advanced Techs by AI

The AI is still getting access to advanced techs in Beta 3A. I've noted the Korath having invulnerability fields and hyperwarp III engines, the Torians having Warp IV drive and the Drengin having Droid Sentries far too early in the game for those civilizations (or any other unless it's the Dread Lords) to have legitimately developed them. I've seen this one reported in other threads but do not see it showing up on the list of reported bugs so I wanted to report it again in its own separate thread. My last game in a previous version featured this bug as well. It really unbalances things for most of the game until any surviving civilizations can catch up, which usually ends up only being the human player. The advanced techs render the lower level weapons techs virtually useless so they are not likely being fully tested. For example, it's pretty futile to build a laser equipped fighter when the Drengin and Korath are building corvettes with invulnerability fields. Even the off type weapons like stinger missile and mass drivers aren't likely to penetrate that kind of defense, especially when the Drengin have droid sentries as well.

I noticed a similar thing. It happened after the "Minor race steals all of someones tech event". The minor race had access to all of the race techs of the race he stole from. (Normal) As well as the best engines, and beam weapons. As I play with slow research. This was VERY obvious and their was no way this minor race could have developed these techs or have stolen them.

Techen, this is an old thread. The recent updates fixed this issue, there's no need for necromancy here.

I'm not so sure it's completely fixed. Relatively early in my game last night, the Dark Yor stole all of the Korath technologies. For one thing, they certainly weren't making all of them available for trade since they only had 4 showing up where the Korath had 6-8. But among the techs they would trade, the Black Hole Gun was on offer. I'm positive the Korath hadn't researched it. It didn't show on their list, and they were focusing on missile weapons, where they had gotten to Stinger III.

Yeah the minor races are still getting advanced techs after the 'minor race steals all techs' event. I had this happen in my game just last night (latest beta)

Not only it happens with the "steal event", but also when new races show up (Fundamentalist, Vegans, Jagged Knife) and you get a message saying they have achieved "Beyond Mortality". I just traded a bunch of old techs to the Fundies in exchange for Black Hole Guns.

This same bug happened today as well. I always feel bad. I do what any evil race leader would do. Trade for the tech and then destroy the minor race. :)

In a game today I got a message saying that "The Pirates" had achieved a technology that allowed them to transcend mortality or something like that, but that they wouldn't share it with me... They weren't a minor race or anything either.

This is NOT a fixed issue, if the minor races are not intended to obtain gross technological superiority. I just finished a game as the humans-- was going along fine, slowly winning the diplo-game. The best guns any major race had were gravity drivers. A minor race stole the Korath tech, I went to trade. It was like Christmas.

I bought Hyperwarp 3, Xeno-Farms 3, Black Hole Erupters, and a passel of other endgame techs in turn for comically low prices-- mostly the midgame techs I already had, far inferior to the stuff they were running around with.

A game or two ago, something similar happened in early-game when a Jagged Knife event hit-- and the JKs were catapulted to endgame. That game ended less favorably, as I sold them my homeworld to buy the stuff, and lacked the econ to exploit it. But, still...

Heck, I've had minor races achieve immortality with great regularity lately-- doesn't remove them from the game or anything, so I don't know what the deal is.

I'd initially assumed this was intentional-- some kind of compensation to keep the Minor Races more competitive-- but they're still getting their clocks cleaned, so if that's the goal, it's not achieving it.

Yeah, although not really the same "bug" I was reporting when I started this thread, I can confirm that the Jagged Knife Event results in the Jagged Knife having what appears to be all known techs as they immediately achieve the Technology Victory conditions without actually winning or ending the game. They also have all of the advanced weapons etc. In the game in which this happened to me I assumed they received most of that tech from the Dread Lords, who were already in when the Jagged Knife entered, but the postings here make me doubt that. I assumed that was the case because I recall reading somewhere that the Jagged Knife automatically have all techs of the surviving races at the time they enter the game.

I saw this in a game yesterday. I went to go talk to the vegans only to discover that they were running around with Doom Rays while no one else had gone beyond the 2-damage weapons. Fun trading with them to get it, but still a little off-putting.

I don't appreciate how this massively unbalances the game. I had this happen where the LentzLandians or whatever got all this cool stuff somewhere. I traded them a bunch of crap for it, but it was so cheap, I started a new game, because there was then no challenge to it.

Hopefully these events or whatever will be tweaked.

You know what would be really awesome is a checkbox list of all of the different events, so you could turn off each different kind. :)

This issue is definitely still in the game. I'm not sure it's tied to the tech stealing event in all cases, but seeing minor races with black hole guns while everyone else is using lasers seems to be a regular issue.

what you didn't realize is that the super tech is bogus. You spend big bucks outfitting with the big weapons only to find out you have been had and the real fp is only 2
