Mega-events off the scale..?

Hi everyone!

So, I was playing a game of GalCiv2. The first event that popped up was that the Korath had found some Precursor device that made them grow stronger and would eventually be unstoppable. So I figure I'd better kill them now and mass my fleet to attack them. Then the Federalist event pops up, and I get the nifty animation that tells me that the Korath has been wiped out... excuse me? I didn't even touch their planet or fleets yet, and a Major Event just wiped out a race? Sure, the Korath only had 1 system worth of planets, but so did everyone else (I was playing on a rare planet map)..

I think so. It was back in DL when I played a map where the planet numbers were so low that everyone only had their home system. The Fundamentalists event occured and the Drengin empire ceased to be.

Regardless, sometimes strange events happens in games that no ammount of planning or foresight can effectively prevent. You just lived one of those moments.

I say, that if you want to avoid this in the future, either turn off mega-events, or play with more planets.

I usually play with very few planets, so when the event shows up it is often a death sentence for the evil races. I find it hilarious.

I remember a moment when i had the Fundamentalist happen on one turn, Jagged Knife the next. Then Iconians of all the people decimated me with their pathetic ships, cause i lost my primary manufacturing worlds to those events. The Dread Lords popped up just before i ceased to exist too..

Fundamentalists + Jagged Knife = Hegemony of Minor Races. First a group of peace-lovers overthrow their evil rulers and establish an interstellar civilization, then a criminal organization infiltrates governments across the galaxy, then the Precursors arrive from nowhere to get revenge, all while the Precursors' ex-slavelings are conquering you.

It would've been weirder if some Good AI race finds a Precursor device giving them infinite strength, then gets the ethical-flip event, turning Evil, and then getting crippled by the Fundamentalists, only to be finished off by the Jagged Knife.

Or if the Pirates and Peacekeepers arrived and began a war against each other(and everyone else), while weakling-race-X on the other end of the Gigantic galaxy gets the Precursor device, and then subspace tears and slows all ships down to 5pc/wk! The ultimate turning of tables... :d
