Warp Drive IV too early

I've noticed that many races seem to be getting ahold of Warp Drive IV very early in the game, yet none of them have any of the prerequisite techs. I've played all those races, so I know it isn't one of their tech trees. However, I do notice that the minor races have this technology in the same fashion, even though they have precious little bargaining power to procure it!

I suspect that the default tech tree has a bug that gives early, possibly quite cheap access to Warp Drive IV, and the major races are trading for it with the minors.

yep, noticed this too and forgot to mention it (wot a beta tester)...hyperwarp III is coming up too early in the current beta too

If a minor researches along one particular tech tree - such as propulsion - in order to gain an advantage - you would perhaps see an advanced propulsion tech made available much more early in the game.

'Too early' is a relative term.

Concentrate on ANY tech early in the game, and you will shift the balance in some way.

I've seen as minor race which had this technology about turn 7 into the game, there is no way in the seven shades of heck they could have managed to research it that fast, they didnt have any of the prior propulsion techs just hyperwarp 3 and some other low techs that you'd expect them to have.

Haha. Yeah this happens very often to me as well. Last time I saw this with

-Advanced force fields (Yor... maybe traded from a minor)
-Hyperwarp III (Dark Yor)

only 10-15 turns into the game with research speed "very slow". It varies from game to game but mostly occurs with minors. It can often be quite ridiculously unfair because you can easily steal or capture this late game techonology from the minors and be invincible for a long period of time.

I've had the same thing happen in a game without minors and where no one had the preceding techs. Since it happened to two races seemingly at once (Korath got Warp Drive 4 and Starbase Fortification 3 and Humans got Invulnerability Field 2) maybe there's some sort of bug that allows them to trade techs they haven't researched yet.

If that were the case, they would have the initial propulsion techs as well, yet they did not possess the early warp techs, or impulse drives.

Often I humorously find myself trading a race prerequisite technologies such as Star Republic, Alliances, ect. for their more advanced ones like Star Federation or Star Democracy.

just to clarify - no minors in any game where Warp IV/Hyperwarp III turned up, with no precursor technology to back up research path, and, yes we're talking within the first 10 or so turns of startup. maybe 'creative' is over-working?

Technically
, those earlier techs have valuable passive bonuses.
