Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

kzin6

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

If your claws can grasp it, then it is rightfully yours. - Kzinti proverb

A salute to all those heroic t'kzintar who have made this empire a resounding success. Our conquests continue and the galaxy will never know peace!

Either way, I don't think eyecandy makes a series, thus I haven't devoted much of my attention to the show.  Same goes for video games too...all the graphics in the world won't help when I can still smell the pile of crap underneath.  Bling bling only goes so far.

What about that love-machine Riker? ;)  Remember that episode where they met some non-organic life-from, and they called humans "ugly bags of mostly water"?  After that episode, my friends and I started calling Riker the "ugly bag of mostly semen".  XD    They had him hooking-up with every other woman on the show...

I think it would be somewhere far in the future. From fossil records, Earth is clearly the origin of humanity. Despite some gaps, there is a very good timeline for human evolution. Genetic data also show how closely related we are to other Terran species, so humanity could not have been a transplant from some other world (unless every species was transplanted too). So given that assumption, it would have to be after Earth had developed interstellar travel, spread out from Earth to colonize other worlds, then had a civilization crash of some sort (previous cylcon war?), and lost contact and knowledge of Earth.

it's called science FICTION. though i tend to think discovering humans on earth, assuming it happens, will lead them to abandon their whole olympian gods religion.

A character I cant remember at the moment said, "All this has happened before, and will happen again," which backs up my theory.

:puke: i'm 26. he could be my... well, technically he could be my great-great-great-great-not-so-great grandson. but in RL he's a good amount outside of my age range. plus my mom had a thing for him, and that's just 8(|

then there's the fact that he's GROSS. andi usually like beards. but seriously...

Eh, I wouldn't turn down Michelle Peifer and she's way beyond my age (her 50 to my 28).  So they just need to be able to age well (or get enough surgery lol).

seriously though, if Jonathan Frakes was all that attractive to begin with (let alone Bill Shatner, even in his younger days, and he managed to plow many more alien fields in 3 seasons than Riker did in 7).

Karma 49?  You were just at 50 earlier today.  Must be a 4 month timer on that thing or something.

Hello hello, I'm new to the empire! Got ninja invited... but seeing as I saw this group yesterday and thought "Wow, a Kzinti Empire? Awesome" and just kinda wandered off to make a Kzinti race on GalCiv I was more than ready to join when I got the email

So, saying hi, and also, does anyone have any race mods? Or just examples of how they made the Kzin in Galciv? I've made my own (with the help of the Kzinti hegemonty mod) but would like to hear about other peoples or get my hands on some files for portraits of them in the game... I can't work out how to get them to work myself :'(

IIRC, AF_Ronin has uploaded some Kzinti-style mods and ships to the Library, which you can access the upper left Navigation bar.  Have fun and welcome to the Kzinti Empire- KzintiPatriarch is a cool Emperor, even though he never did manage to snag me to become a part of his empire :-).

Unfortunately those are the mods I already picked up. Very nicely designed ships and suchlike, but unfortunately no leader portrait, which is something I'm interested in.

Good point, but also remember it's called SCIENCE fiction, hehe.   Any good sci-fi writer/producer/creator know that a good portion of the fanbase gets pissed-off if things dont seem to make sense scientifically or logically.  I trust the creators of BSG in that respect.  :cylon:

Welcome to the Kzinti Empire Mephitis! |-)    Always great to have more fans of the books in the Empire.  My approach to creating a Kzinti race for gameplay has more often been based on necessities in-game, than trying to stick with a Kzinti-like theme.  I play on Suicidal difficulty, so I optimize more for the game itself rather than flavor.  In GC2 success is generally all about economy, since your ability to do most anything is based off of it.  But if you were to build them to be faithful to the books and stories, here are my suggestions:  Distribute racial bonuses in soldiering, research, population growth, bravery, weapons, speed, creativity, loyalty, & morale.  Super ability - warrior.  Political party - War.  I have a good collection of Kzinti pics, many of them gleaned from book-covers and other sources.  I'll post them here a little later today.

even though he never did manage to snag me to become a part of his empire .

I beleive the phrase is "Screenshot or it didn't happen", in which case, my copy/paste into that replay is my 'screenshot'.  Perhaps Neilo got chopped back to a level 1 citizen for a few hours and your karma reflected this.

Kryo did say something in a recent post about fiddling around with forum ranks/stats, so that sounds like a likely possibility.

Here are some Kzinti pics for everyone to use as they please. :)

The symbol of the Fanged God:

Logo of the Kzinti empire, which can be used as your race logo in-game. (save as .png file)

A Puppeteer, mortal enemies of the Kzinti!

Once I'm home I'll grab some screenshots from the excellent ships that AF_Ronin made.

Thanks a lot :D

Yeah, I was trying to make a pretty faithful version of them and I ended up with pretty much what you just suggested. Guess my memory hasn't gone yet!

I'm new to GalCiv2 and as such playing on normal, though I'm thinking of upping the difficulty since I tried out my Kzinti last night on a small map and once I built up a decent millitary I just steamrolled three of the other races without so much as a single loss to my fleet, the last one who seemed to like me for some reason took a little longer since once I had half his planets the peacekeepers were activated, but he surrendered a few weeks later anyway so it was no problem :P

As for the Kzinti Empire not fitting too well in with economic gameplay, I disagree on that point. Just because in the situations they are written in they have no real need for economy or diplomacy or suchlike doesn't mean they will stick to their stratergy of eat 'em all in the GalCiv2 universe. I'm sure the Kzin would see things such as trade or diplomacy or cultural influence useful in a situation where there's another 9 empires about... after all, you can swap things with them or make alliances with them but that just lets you conquer without leaving your back undefended, and they're all going to get eaten in the end so it doesn't matter if you give them those 5000bc or not, just take it back later

As for those pictures, how would one go about making one a racial portrait?

Hehe...yes, all the foes of the Kzinti will be devoured in the end.  B)   Stick to the Heroic Kzinti ideals and the grass-eaters will be slain!

I would suggest playing on Tough difficulty, which is the highest level before the AIs start "cheating" with lots of extra bonuses.

Actually, use this logo for your in-game race logo that will appear overlaid on your planets.  The surrounding black area should be transparent in the game.

Here are few more ship pics too (not from GC2):

I also have some pictures of Kzinti ships from the Starfleet Battles game, but they are just photos of the actual miniatures.

As for the racial portrait for leaders, I havent fiddled around with that too much, but I think you just need to put the desired file in the correct folder, then select it in-game?  I know you can also do it by editing the race.xml file to reference the correct pic.

I never watched ST: Enterprise, but I do wish it had gone at least one more season, because I heard they were going to introduce the Kzinti in some major plot-lines.  I'm very curious as to what they would have looked like in the show.  All CGI ,or people in costumes....either way it would have been cool to see. :)

That last one, before the symbol of the fanged god, doesn't seem very feline.  The joints don't match the man-like knee bends seen in the other pictures.

That trilogy of bones for the leg seems more, dare I say?, canine?  Then again, the 'webed' ears and the hairless tail coupled with the elongated muzzle makes it seem more rat-like.

Got some context for that picture?  Perhaps some genetic changes on a Kzin or something?

No, its just that the Kzinti are in both the Star Trek, and Known Space universes, and the various artists conceptions of them have been somewhat different over time.  In Known Space stories, the humans refer to them as Rat-Cats sometimes, because of the fan-like ears and bare tails.  Personally, I consider Known Space Kzinti to "more canon" than anything from ST, as there is many times more content from Known Space, and this is where Larry Niven originally created them.  They showed up in ST because he and Gene Roddenberry were friends.  For the most accurate descriptions, the Man Kzin Wars and other Known Space universe stories and books would be the best source.  Also http://www.larryniven.org/ is a good source for info.

Ah excellent, all works well.

One more problem remains however, while I can use the preset Kzinti ship deisgns in a standard game, I can't seem to use them in the metaverse. Do I need to put the file somewhere else to use these ship designs? It's not a mod, it's just a custom ship set, so I'm not sure what's wrong.
