Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

If your claws can grasp it, then it is rightfully yours. - Kzinti proverb

I occasionally look at it Freeman. I dont think a lot of people on these forums are interested in the roleplaying/storytelling aspect. Most people just want to play and talk about the games, a few write AARs, and even fewer do the roleplaying. I prefer my roleplaying to be more interactive, such as in-person RPGs. Tonight is my D&D night. :HOT:

I've got some friends that play Warhammer Fantasy, and I used to play Space Marine, which was the epic-scale version of 40k. Think armies, rather than squads. An individual troop is just a couple centimeters tall. My favorite units were artillery, devastator companies (heavy weapons infantry), speeders for Eldar, Warhound titans, and drop pods.

Eh, I've played a few MMO's and the RP aspect in those has to be searched for HARD. Again, sorry for any stereotypes, but I think those games are now being more geared towards keeping people's attention via shiny medals

Check out my shiny new 3rd place medal.

or other bling-bling on the character. Too much of the populations of MMOs are out for e-peen measuring anymore it seems.

freeman, I believe this was more aimed at "you have high school and college to keep you busy here soon" more than anything. At those times of your life, it would be best to not be attached to a computer screen in your off time. Let that be for when you are old and in your 30s ~coughs~.

Here's to hoping this thread/post will be dissolved in some forum purge in a year and a half from now so that last sentence doesn't bite me.

Quite true. My view on children has nothing to do with it, at 14....with high school, college, girls and just life in general your road ahead holds far more distractions than mine. I meant nothing else by the comment. As a parent my self i think i have a reasonable grasp on how unlike one child is from the next, regardless of age.

I'd say your reading far too much into my comment and i certainly did not make any assumptions about you bad mouthing anyone, please don't place words in my mouth that were never there to begin with.

As i said before, i do hope that in 2..3 years time that you are indeed around, it would mean the MV has survived and prospered which is good for GC2 and more so for GC3. Though you will have your work cut out for you to catch up to number 3 in the MV, but hey....go for it!

ok back to my question is any body reading this?

Sorry, no. I did start to read it, but it just never grabbed me.

Nice medal KP, well done! :CONGRAT:

Mag, either in this thread or the ZYW you said about using the Thalans in your ZYWs rather than my thought on the Arceans due to their -1 speed. I now understand why. /hat tip

Definitely works well on the larger maps  :D

Now if I could just figure out how you pulled off a 97k TA gigantic game. I'm still stuck back at 77k...if I'm lucky. I'm fairly consistent on pulling off mid 60s though lol.

Perhaps back in 1.91 when you could quick-buy multiple improvements in one turn, then you would be able to front-load tons of research in one week...oh the bugs that help things out. The tech bug probably wouldn't have been biting that early in the game either...

*edit*
~squints at your posted games~
Ahhh wait. No size listed on that 97k TA game. It wasn't a gigantic, it was an immense. That makes me feel better now :)

I always use the Thalans in larger map ZYWs now. They arent ever close enough to colonize another system before you get to them, and having to conquer 1 planet instead of 2 is a definite advantage.

Cutting through their defense of 4 constructors sometimes though is time consuming. Gotta remember, the TA Thalans are done their social building in the 3rd week...they gotta do something with their time then lol.
I havent done any TA ZYWs yet, but in DA, my Spore ships have a speed of 6, and I almost always upgrade it right next to their planet, so usually the # of ships is not an issue. Just to be sure though, I always buy some of their ships for tech. I think this also makes them less likely to build fighters because they want to replace the ships you bought from them first.

Yeah, the Thalan (or should that be Vogon) constructor defence fleet has pushed me to the 15th April on more than one occasion - damned by-pass builders, hanging in orbit in just the same way that a brick doesn't!

There was no multiple research building buying on turn one on those games - I was using the Yor tech tree, so just plonked down a Research Matrix. Going up to Immense will cater for most of the score difference I suspect.
Well, 2nd week (if you research the next research tech) will give you the 10rp buildings in the Yor tree. At least then week 2 you could have had your planet filled out (if you dare). But I digress, that was back in 1.91 and now run 1.96.

Even with the +range ability, I still need some extra range on the ship in order to invade it since I rarely get to learn the life support techs, not enough passive for me. Thus my colony turns into an empty spore ship (1ps faster than a colony ship, upgrades in a week) and my miner into a constructor and they fly out to Thala together. At which point the empty spore upgrades into a cargo hull w/ just 1 gun and a spore module.

I've given the Thalans every tech I got (even weapons) every game. Mainly because by the time I'm about to dip below -500 I'm at they doorstep and they never seem to respond to making a tiny/small fighter in that time it takes me to upgrade and invade.

BTW, what the F determines upgrade time? I swear it's a random number since that empty spore ship of mine takes anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks to upgrade. It's the same design every game, but a different number some games. Getting there at March 22nd and seeing a 4 week upgrade time pisses me off to no end.

PS I had 2 Woodchucks for lunch, so I apologize for any rambling ahead of time. Thank you FF3 for correcting my spelling.

Upgrade time is based upon the proximity of an influence-generating feature...planets or starbases, that you own. This is one thing I learned from doing ZYWs, because I noticed the wildly different upgrade times too. Took me a little while to figure it out. Now, I make sure my base is within close enough range so that my spore ship takes 1 turn to upgrade, or 2 at the most.

Good to know. If I see another 4-weeker I'll make sure to set my constructor right away. Normally, it's 1ps slower than my empty spore and thus takes another 2 weeks to get to the destination. I'll try ploping down the star base right when it's time to upgrade the empty spore. 2 weeks behind should still give me the range I need to invade.
Also, the distance you need to be to get a 1 turn upgrade scales with different sized maps. On tiny you need to be within 2 spaces, on gigantic it more like 8 or 9 spaces. Also, you need to build the base before you start the upgrade, because it will go from what was in existence at the time the upgrade was started.

Kzinti empire2.JPG Sentient species taste better...
Aye, I knew that one by what I was seeing. I'd make up the time (even if it was 1 week) and get that star base closer in my games I've done. From here on out, If I see one of those horrid times, I'll save to a temp game and place the star base and check it again.

Gotta have a temp game (or many) and the game when it started...just in case :)
Yeah, I generally use two save slots, and the quicksave, when I'm doing ZYWs. I take pains to get the most score for each game, so I do need to replay things if it doesnt go quite as planned. :)

Gorkamorka perhaps?

KP I don't think you answered this Q.
Whoops....Car Wars is on old car combat game. The battle system is much like the old Star Fleet Battles, but it is of course with cars instead. The cars were just cardboard cutouts that you manouvered around the table. Gorkamorka sounds familiar too but I cant remember exactly what it is. Sounds like something having to do with orks. Maybe Games Workshop?

Way to go KP. :CONGRAT:

The #1 slot has become a revolving door as of late, i'm sure Mag and Motti are not done with yet!
I'm just happy to be on the first page finally. TONS more ground to make up to get you yas though. Tonight will be a marathon again (wife's out of town), so I'm certain I'll see a "1" in front of my placing tomorrow morning. Only 80k in score, shouldn't be that hard to accomplish. Knock out about 10 games and it'll be mine.
You can definitely do it Loupdinour! :D I had 180k to make up before yesterday, and while I did use some completed saved games I had been waiting to deploy, I did it in one evening. Looking forward to having Kzinti in the #1 & #2 spot.  :CONGRAT:

And if I spend some time on my second character I can easily get him into second or third also. That would be awesome!

Nicely done KP - how much are you getting per game now though? Can't be much more than 7-8K.

I figure if I did some ZYW's with Magnumaniac, I could be up to 2 million within an evening...
