I am disapointed with the briefness of Harborne's exile.  I think it should be a lot longer considering his multiple and various offenses.  I think being banned from the MV would be totally warranted too.  Looking at his empire roster, they still havent done anything with the majority of his fake characters either.

Ban from the forums should be the slap on the wrist for being bad in general.  The length of time however doesn't matter IMHO.  I was about to give some RL exampled of timeout punshiment...but it would stir a pot we don't need in here....soo, the jist of what I wanted to say is that the knowledge that you got banned from the forums from being bad is enough, 1 day, 1 month, 1 year doesn't matter.  You've been shown by the mods that what you've done is unaccepable and the length of time needn't be long if you were allowed to come back.  So I agree with this short forum ban.  He got his slap on the wrist as a warning.

For what he did, I agree that his current serials should be banned from the MV permantly and characters deleted.  All of them.  If he wished to rejoin the MV he should have to pony up the cash for new serials.  I cannot beleive he didn't think what he was doing was wrong, how could you NOT.

with regard to cheating, his reputation is permenently tarnished, and it's going to seriously damage any designs he might have on long-term success for his empire in the MV.

with regard to his ban, i do think less than a week is a bit short, but ultimately i think that being caught and publicly denounced for his actions by the forum mods and devs is enough punishment. even seth has shunned him despite his being nice, which goes a long way in showing just how dispicable a number of his actions have been (and seth, that wasn't meant as an insult towards you, so please don't take it that way).

Finally read the war over in the mv forum...youch.  I should have done so prior to posting here...I wouldn't have gone as far as putting my 2c into what should happen to his MV account.

I still stand on my comment that the act of getting a forum ban is in itself a punishment, no matter the length of time of the ban.  I beleive it was mainly put in place to try and calm things down to all parties involved.  When 1 side can no longer really fire back, the war ends fairly quick and 'peace' can resume.  3-4 days should be plenty to collect oneself and take a step back and read what has been posted with a clearer un-emotion-driven head.  Typing through one's sister helps bring one other to 'proof read' what you are about to say and helps to minimize the malice in the post.

So, in other news....Rock Band 2 should come out Sunday...I plan on trying to keep up with Tom Morello's guitar skillz in "Testify"!!!!!

The best way to learn is through mistakes.  Mistakes are part of the past, thus we must never forget the past for we forget lessons learned.

All involved now have learned that what happened is wrong (hold critasism to this please).  All have now also learned how badly emotions can ruin a conversation/debate.  With this rooted in our minds, we can hopefully move forward in our lives bettered by this.

My thoughts on what should have happened to Harborne. For his cheating in the MV, he should have been banned, it's what i would have done if i was in the position to do so. Ok so thats not going to happen, but his accounts should all be reset and be left with the one account with the original serial he registered the game with but with all characters reset. So he has his 3 chars but no score whatsoever.

But it got worse didnt it. For cheating and the excessive abuse of the community he should have got banned.

But it didnt end there. For cheating, excessive abusive of the community, email harrasment of a community member and the abuse to a SD rerasentitive, he should get banned. I would have thought abusing a stardockian would be enough on its own.

I suppose in the fairness of giving everybody a chance after one mistake, i can wear not banning him after any one of the above offenses. But all of them together!!!!

Ok, I had to try and lighten this mood.  All the above was sarcasm if you didn't notice.

You have some very good points Loup, but I still disagree about the length of the ban.  The length of time may not matter, but only if you assume that the person in question actually takes it to heart, and is mature enough to act like a responsible person afterwards.  From what I've seen, I dont think it will have any real effect.  A longer ban though would be more likely to have a positive effect of some measure, because the penalty would have a real impact, rather than just a handful of days, which could be easily endured.  I dont think it will be much of a deterrent.

Definitely all of the bogus characters should be deleted.  Anybody even a little bit familiar with the MV knows about the three character limit, and to protest that he did not is ludicrous.  Whatever serial (and characters) he currently uses should be banned/exiled.

Loupdinour is also right that the past should not be forgotten, because the same mistakes will continue to be made.

On another note, I was thinking of getting Spore.  I read a bit about it recently the way the different stages of the game work sounds very interesting.  Anybody here played it yet?

Over in the MVL round 10 thread Neilo had a few things to say about it.  I know I won't be playing it w/o getting a new video card....damn me for saving $50 5 years ago on the Gefroce FX 5200 "economy" card.

Re-visiting the length of time...as I eluded to, I think it was moreso to help people calm down and stop the flame war.  Things may re-occur today, but at least people had some time to reflect on their actions and comments and it should be more civil today.

I'm sad to say that Harbone is back.

I am glad for the forum fixes...all the problems from the latest update were annoying, though some people did overeact a bit at first, hehe. Now if they could get the new digicons to have a black background, that would make them look a lot better.
