HELP!!!!!!!!!

I'm playing a game on a huge map. I have good planets but their far and wied and reforments take over 15 weaks to protect some vitale growing ares. i have 3 empires on the wary going to hostile side. my minng starbase a far from protection. Is their any way to save my empire in such a bad taticle postion? sorry for spelling.

Build some factories closer to your borders, upgrade engine tech and put more engines on your ships, or buy some ships outright near the front.

Apart from trading or treaties (which by the way is excellent advise):
1) build a spin-control center: this boosts the military score of that planet by a factor 5. Very few civilizations will be willing to go to war with you if your total military score is much higher than theirs.
2) look for AI's that don't have a good relation with each other and pay one of them to attack the other. Usually when there are 2 or 3 AI's close to me in terms of military power, I get them to fight each other. The chances are smaller that they will attack me + they all get weakened by the war.
