Good Vs Evil

Which is harder

Hi all. I am a relative newcomer to GCII (bout 8 months) i recently started playing in the verse and became interested in the scoring system. All of my games have been finished with a completly good alignment except for my last. After reading lots of excellent strats from other players about X/0/0 style play both tech and industry i figured i would try evil and see how to take advantage of a few things. WOW! i absolutly flogged them in comparison to games played aligned as good!

Is this normal? Is evil that much easier to play?

I could not believe i only require one transport to take out anything due to the 'wonders' etc. This in comparison to 5-10 for large planets when good and the massive pop/moral methods required when good amazed me.

Just an odd game? or should i reap the benefits of moving to the dark side?

Does good score you higher because its harder?

There are a *lot* of threads discussing this issue. Do a search for "evil", and youll find plenty of threads laying the situation out. Here was a recent one. WWW Link

Thanks mate, yeah read a few of the threads. The popular opinion is that its easier... does it effect the scoring though?

Just being evil in itself doesn't effect scoring, but the evil improvements(like the MCC) can give a good boost to your score.

If you play neutral, you will get very powerfull later on in the game. To play good is.....just amazing and a great challenge!

I actually do well playing good, but I think it's got a lot to do with galaxy size (or planet numbers). If I rush to Xeno Ethics, and buy my way into good in a game where I have only 10 planets or so, the instant financial boost is very nice. But in a big game with dozens of planets or more, that wouldn't even remotely be worthwhile as a reason to go good.

The other reason I do well as a good guy is because of the defensive boosting techs. I know my playing style is very far from optimal, but I just love having the ships with 500 defense that my enemies simply can't touch. Sending out two or three ships to completely obliterate a militarily superior enemy makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I fully agree with doogles concerning the defences for good, mainly early in the game. As for the galaxy size, I’m not certain (I even experienced that on larger galaxies it can get easier: you have more time to recover during wars and planets are less frequently attacked as transports need more time to travel…)
I guess important is:
- choose quickly your good ethical alignment early on and put your now bigger defences on ships, as many as possible, because once evils are attacking for example with psyonic weapons (which were designed for them only) you will have an advantage. If you want you can check this link (work done by Iztok) WWW Link, where you find a best detailed almost scientific explanation on how weapons and defences interact…
– always attack the economy of your opponent (kill all traders and star bases + put spies on as many economic buildings as possible). This is one of evil’s main vulnerable point. It is often recommended to first do this instead of directly facing all enemy ships (your opponent comes strongly into debt and cannot finance its fleets…).

Peacefully yours…
