Whoa! I like Research, but...

I love the All Labs strategy, but...

Is THIS supposed to be POSSIBLE?

Unfortunately, this was in the course of just barely trying out TA/b2, since I had to be away from the game for a couple months, and the scenario settings are ludicrous (really easy - maybe cakewalk, one opponent, and I don't think I spent any start-up ability points.) I was just going to look things over, look at the tech tree, etc. Now I REALLY wish I could play this out. I might try it anyway.

Hmmm...Well, I wasn't going to post any more start-up screenshots here. I felt I had well shown the issue.

But I see that I managed to break the earlier examples when I was cleaning up my Imageshack files. D'oh!

In addition, I was doing a little experimenting to see just how frequently a super-resource homeworld would show up. And in the course of about 25 resets, I came up with a 700% bounus about 70% of the time. There were double 700%ers maybe 20+% of the time. Double Precusor Mines were much more common that double Precursor Libraries.

And then there was this start-up (which I plan to play out.)...

(Set up was Immense, Very Slow Tech, Rare everything, random minors and opponents, Maso.)

Man do the GC gods favor you! Id be stoked about just getting the 2 300%+ tiles...actually even just the one manufacturing tile would make me feel lucky/content.
Is this just happening since TA and/or is it just exclusive to you?

I don't really know.

I've only started TA games since the beta 2 roll-out, and before that I was dry on the game for about 5 weeks. I haven't noticed others here reporting a rash of good starts. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I've been consistently using the Immense galaxy size, and/or that I am using all Rare / Very slow settings.

Try those settings, and control-N through about 30 game starts. keep some tick marks of 700% mines, libraries, double mines, double libraries, other. I'd be interested in your results.

Kryo,
since I can't edit the older posts, could you remove the 2 broken image links. I can't repair them because I foolishly deleted the images from both my own PC and from the Imageshack archive.

I presume the broken links are giving the same page distortion to everyone else that I experience.

"+ FIXED: Excessive bonus tile distribution on homeworld? (Link)"

That's all well and good, but this serious issue deserves further testing. I believe I will have to "archive" this particular build to another playable location on my hard drive so I can work with it some more.

For instance, there is the interesting question for whether the setup parameters of this beta could, just possibly, be imported to the final expansion. An academic exercise? Perhaps; but what is life without a bit of

I dunno. I'm now trying to remember WHY I reported this "problem" to be nerfed?

You must have accidentally clicked on the "Good" moral choice option when the report/don't report bug dialog screen popped up...

Weakling...

The Good choice = "+ 10 % production and - 25% morale"

while the evil choice would gain us: "+ 20% morale and - 25% production"

i haven't seen this come up in TA recently, but i haven't ctrl-N'ed much.

the best setup i ever got in a DA game was a +700% industry and two +300% industries. these combos of bonus tiles are insane.

in some ways, i almost wish there were lots more bonus tiles per planet, and lots more types of bonus tile... the unique configurations could pose harder choices to players, and would certainly discourage generic planet formulae.

I think a unique medal should be created just for you mate. The 700% manu bonus will do fine.....

I donno, I was thinking he might be fodder for the slave pit....he said he never noticed it published before....well maybe we didn't want it nerfed...lmao. I wished I could have played a couple games of precursor of fortune before it got "fixed".

chucksled,
I saved a few "experimental" games before it was 'fixed'. Would you like me to mail you one? Pm me an address, also 'mines', 'libraries', or surprise?

drrider,
Thanks so much....I act like I have so much time to play this....its the only game i play but when i get home from work and do the duties, about an hour or two is all i can devote...so I'm thrilled to finish a game now and then.....time I finish one, they have a new release....so I'll just relish the thought of all those bonuses and live vicariously through your posts....but that offer got you out of the slave pit....you might be my head researcher....playing korath, i'm not sure that's that much better of a deal or not...but.....

have a great day and for all those celebrating...have a great thanksgiving.....

I might also {ahem} coincidentally {ahem} have a backup folder somewhere with that entire (pre-nerf) beta build in it.

Just because I'm so cautious and all.

Happy Thanksgiving!

You know what this calls for? Moddable tile bonuses, that's what. I have a tendancy to mod every aspect of the game just for my own personal enjoyment/preference, and tile bonuses are definately among the things I wish I could play around with. Anyone else feel similarly?

yes, but it's not a burnding desire or anything.

There is a thread around that does indeed show how to mod a save game that then gives you extra bonus's. IIRC it can only be modded in a save game with a hex modder (i think) and that you can change the individual values of each tile so that you can, if so inclined , make every tile on that planet a precursor mine or library or whatever....

I will try to find the thread again and leave a link in here for you.

I found that thread guys, Get the bonuses you've always wanted.

Reply 42 lists the value's of each bonus, but you will have to sift through the thread to find out how to implement it.

Hope this helps.

Bah, that's too much like cheating. I'd prefer moddable tiles. Mainly because one of the things I wanted to add is tiles that give ~penalties~ to certain buildings. Just to throw in an element of keeping people on their toes.

Also, this reminds me of another thing I've wanted to see: Capacity for ships with Survey modules to do a "geosurvey" of an uninhabited planet. Basically like spying on an inhabited planet: it would show you where all the tiles are, and what bonuses are on each tile. This would both make survery ships more useful, and add an extra element of strategy to the colony rush phase.

There is a current discussion on that very topic here somewhere....i agree by the way too.

This reminds me a feature that was told in this very old thread https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=164&aid=35553 but was finally dropped. I guess it was a good idea on paper but not a fun one or one that won't be used by the player. But that could be another thing if you have to choose between 2 class 1 planets in DA as one of the important things is the number of terraformable tiles
