Welcome Thor1950 (and obv. a fellow SG fan ) to a great game and a great fan community. And so you know, Seabass6.7 isn't kidding, Stardock has excellent customer service skills and really will do all they can to help you if you run into problems, so will the fan community. Again, welcome!

ps myself and DethAdder are members of a group of players, some veteran and some new, that play in a monthly competition called the Metaverse League. If you turn out enjoying the game and are later looking for new people to talk with and enjoy new ways to play I strongly suggest checking us out. Here's a link to the main page with some history on it: The Metaverse League

are you rush buying? at the beginning of the game you just don't have the resources to do that outside of a few times.

also, some of the "top-choice" abilities at the beginning of the game are Economics and Morale; the economics ability gives higher tax income while higher morale is two-fold, it allows you to tax at a higher rate and keep your people happy, and also happy people will breed more (not like pop. growth which gives an added % to the growth itself, morale dictates what kind of growth you will have, 100% morale is double growth)

i suggest looking through various forum posts, particularly those written by Purge, Mumblefratz, and Wyndstar, as a in-depth look at various strategies and how things work in GalCiv.

but as those three are quick to say, all they can do is show what they've done and at best give an outline of playing options. Experience is really the best teacher.

have fun!

Welcome!

I'm one of those players who played for awhile, then set it aside. Not because of any dislike of the game, but because I got into the mood for fantasy gaming for a bit. Luckily, this game covers what StarCraft and Dawn of War fail to cover in my game library.
