1.8e Fleet Movement Error

1.8e Fleet Movement Error

I've noticed that when I group ships into a fleet and order them to move a distance beyond what they can move in one turn that it refuses to acknowledge the order. It doesn't crash the game, but it does make it annoying to move large groups of ships long distances as I must either send them as single ships, or I must babysit them every single turn. Anyone else getting this bug?

Nobody sane in his mind would except Stardock to release a patch during the week-end

Well, he DID qualify his statement: ...nobody sane in his mind...

Although I suppose not knowing US holidays is one thing (I don't know any of them either), demanding a patch on a weekend is something else.

Humans make mistakes. Programmers are humans. So we make mistakes (I am programmer too). Some of those mistakes are very unpleasant for users. As a programmer you have simply too many things to watch. It does not matter what is the project. The only way to avoid mistakes is to do nothing. I prefer development rather than nothing. This bug did not last long. Good work, Stardock!

Next time, if you have a problem with some serious bug: gather as much details as possible and report it. If it is a blocker for you, use backup! Stardock Central makes backups. If you don't use them when needed, it is your fault, not the fault of Stardock programmers.

hmm..my game is fully updated with the Stardock updater and I am still having problems. What can I do to fix it?

Uno: I posted the link to the 1.8f patch which fixes the fleet bug. Its earlier in this thread. Not sure how you missed it...?

With all respect, I see nothing on Stardock's game packaging to say that the contents are at a beta stage of development!

Yes, Stardock do put a lot into supporting the users and fixing bugs - but it is just NOT acceptable when a bug of this magnitude stops someone from actually being able to play the game!

Please stop trying to defend the indefensible - when a software bug stops the software from being used for what it was purchased for then it's a big problem. It is NOT possible to play the game with the fleet bug.

Reload the version of the game that your purchase price paid for ("as is" - see the EULA), and use that one. The ships should move fine. I believe on my Gold Edition disks that's, what, version 1.53? 1.4?

Anyway, everything after that is a free inducement from Stardock to get you to register and continue following their products. So show a little patience until 1.8f is made final, probably this week.

I think that the latest version is 1.80g. This version is already all right. This is not the beta version.

Stardock says I have DA ver 1.80g.100. However when I start up the game it says ver 1.80e in the corner of the screen. I'm experiencing that fleet bug. How do I update w/o stardock? Or more importantly why does stardock tell me I've got 1.80g?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I downloaded DA so I don't have a cd... I updated from DL (have CD someplace).

Thank you CariElf! I found your fix in "fixes for pathfinding." I'm a total noob so the thought of messing with my registry was terrifying... but it worked. Thanks!

I have the same problem, and I still have the fleet movement bug. Any way to update manually? edit: fixed by the registry fix :)

Ive been noticing some very weird events relating to this while using the auto-pilot.

Auto-piloting ships do not move arround other ships, planets or stations (mining or starbase). This occurence is very annoying because if it happens with a race your not at war with it causes the "are you sure you wish to do this? it will start a war!" message.

This also means that if you have a colony ship on autopilot if it passes a plannet that is already colonised it will attempt to (and fail to) colonise that planet rather than carry on to its destination
