heightmap update error

When I try and update my heighmap through Stardock, it gets stuck on "deleting temporary files" forever and never finishes. Anyone know what's going on? All the other updates worked fine so I'm not too worried, but it would be nice to get this working.

Mine did that recently and I thought it was locked up, but I went and did something for a couple of minutes figuring I'd straighten it out when I got back. By then it had actually finished. Overall it must of just sat there for 10 solid minutes before finishing though.

Yeah it's doing something when it says that. Just let it run and it will finish. Maybe a dev will explain what's going on?

What exactly is the heightmap update anyway? I've noticed it no idea what it does...

I noticed that too, the last few updates. If I ignore it and do something else it always finishes, but it does get stuck for a minute or two on the "deleting temporary files" part.

Does that update mess with the Windows registry? Sometimes that can take longer than other file operations, especially when anti-virus/anti-malware programs are running in the background. Seems like a long time otherwise, if it's a basic file operation.

This is in Stardock Central:
Optional module for both Dread Lords and Dark Avatar that optimizes performance of the planetary graphics.

I understand it so, this speeds up some graphics algorithms, but it is not necessary to play.

I guess the section "deleting temporary files" does something else too. User does not really need to know, what exactly the installation does, but if the text is changing, the user is happy and believes, that everything is all right.

Don't worry about updating the heightmaps. If you look down in the bottom pane in the "download size" box you'll see "Version refresh only". That means that the number was raised for technical reasons during another update, but nothing actually changed.
