Post your TA suggestions here

This thread is for TA suggestions. Basically, if you don't like something, or think some design choice should be re-thought, post it on this thread. Do NOT post bugs here. Do NOT post major suggestions. This is tweaks only. I'm hoping this might serve as a thread that will help Stardock put on some polish over a rough edge or two that we, collectively, are sure to spot. Put a dash in front of the suggestion, and try to separate the commentary a touch (suggest an extra return) so that suggestions and commentary can be easily winnowed by the browser of this topic. State both the change and the reason for the suggestion.

Since I have one, I'll start/demo what I mean!

- The colors for the Arceans are giving me a headache after an hour or two of play. Perhaps the yellow can be softened?

I didn't have this problem under DL (I never played DA Arceans) I think the problem is the way the Arceans colors are overlaying on the interface redesigns. Obviously, I can't be sure exactly what was causing the headache...But I think it was the color combo.

SIMPLE REQUEST:

I would very much like to see a different symbol for PQ0 and PQ1 worlds on the "tactical" map... PQ1 worlds are often diamonds in the rough, and it would be nice to be able to qujickly distinguish them from PQ0.

Haven't played GalCiv in long time... that is when I found the TA beta was out.

If the Devs don't plan on changing the Tech list on the Diplomacy Screen, I would love to see some indication of what the Race Unique techs are. For instance in such a large list you could just put a simple dash next to a unique tech. This helps me distinguish not only the other race's unique techs, but my own as well. I would hate to accidentally trade mine thinking it was something everyone else would get it eventually.

Example:
Sensors 1
Sensors II
Slave Pits (*)
Laser
Laser II

I think you guys get the picture. :p

You should be able to annex minor races instead of just leave alone or conquer. With this relationship you could have the option to be able to levy a war tax if money becomes tight during conflicts or demand a certain tech at a much lower cost. You should also have the option to lease minor races ships, starbases etcetera. The minor races could also have specific benefits to a civ who annexes them as an example an aid to your spying or a boost in influence or a race where you get a higher than usual trade return.

Why not culture-flipping of minors ?

I would like to see a ship Garage, so you can make any size ship, with any size hull without having to start a game. Also be able to view\edit the ingame ships too. This way you can spend the time making some really good designs, then have all the all as temletes when you are ready to play.

One thing I would like to see is a change in the research slider where a click would decrease the research time by a turn. This would automatically decrease mil and social spending. Then you could adjust as liked.

It would be nice to have blinking lights in the ship editor. the new animate feature is great but why is there no "blink" button for lights? :)

Iconian Colors are not "so good" sometimes. for example: If you colonize a new planet you can set a new planet name. but the name is white text on light blue background and almost unreadable.

It would be nice to be able to synchronize the animation of parts. e.g. a rotating arm on the left and right side.

NOTE: And after building the ship the animation is faster than it was in the ship editor

And I miss a "Doomstar" to just destroy a single planet - not the entire star system!

(sorry for posting again, next time I will edit. -.-)

Don't let the flipped planet notification come up during the GNN Report between turns.

In the Foreign Relations screen, let us see what planets AI capitals are on and where any Galactic Acheivements, etc. can be found. SAme for our own special structures in the colony screen.

An elected UP president who gets to pick what the next topic for vote will be on.

Make it better to be good, good doesn't always mean handicaped.
It seems like more of a challenge to be good, it is my suggestion to either give a scoring bonus to those who choose good or make it better ingame to be good, give more good bonus's and things like that.

I mean you look at the top 6 characters on the metaverse and all six are very evil, doesn't that show something, you look at the top 10 characters and out of those 10 they are all very evil with the exception of two neutral and 1 chaotic evil. There is no good characters which should tell you that this game needs more balance to good civs or give a scoring bonus to those characters.

Could you make it so that the 'Interstellar War Colleges' tech for the Terrans results in a building like the Arecean's Navigation Centres. I think it would be more interesting that way.

a way to tell how many ships of each type that you are currently building at a glance. instead of trying to count them when you have 10 or more worlds.

Some thoughts/suggestions. Ssome already discussed in length elsewhere.

1. I would like to see the later Yor economy techs get more expensive. Seems to easy to fly through the full list.
2. I would like to see the 1st Iconian economy structure get auto upgraded to the second one.
3. Please clarify if unique techs are supposed to be traded/stolen or not.
4. Improve the good and neutral ethics
5. Update some of the traits (courage, range, etc) that are not used as much.
6. Give all races the full 10 customization points
7. I would like to see more custom attack/defense techs. Personally I think it would be cool to slip in a tech that gives every race ship a +1 beam attack or something like that automiatically without adding features. The attack/defense modifiers are sort of hidden from the player, but the beam/missile/shied/etc ratings are pretty obvious.
8. Would like to see it easier to use defensive structures on smaller planets.
9. Update espionage system
10. I would love to see the startup options have more flexibility in determining features. Some examples would be the ability to choose something between common and occasional. Also would like the option to slow down tech even more.
11. Increase use of small ships by making it slower to get to medium hulls. Maybe add another tech or two before it.
12. Maybe have a unique symbol or planet pic for any of the capitals (economic/manufacturing/etc).
13. Update Drengin to make more interesting and unique

Add a popup over the buildings in the building screen that states at your current social rating how long it would take you to build this building, sort of like the popup on the weekly budget when you move your cursor over the bank.
I think I would use an auto production feature that keeps the production slider at the highest possible level (100%) unless it will result in you going negative (either weekly or total depending on people's preferences).

I would also like to see the cost for improvements and cost for tehnology listed on the tech screen if you right click a tech.

I don`t know if it has been suggested or allready been implemented in the new addon for i neither bought it yet nor have read the entire board.
I would love to see the "Back"-button in the Planet Details Window moved to the same location as the "Details"-button in Colony Management Screen.
It would make Colony management much smoother when you don`t need to look where to place the mouse to switch between both.

it would be good to see how long the game lasted (real hours) in High Scores menu.
can AI form an alliance with other AI? for example terran signs alliance with torian federation and than attacks me because i'm evil?

Stardock I just thought about this while playing a game. Ok say we just selected a planet and now we are in its Colony Management menu. Now as an example. I am the Yor right now. Also I have Superior Collective as my factories ok. Now say I traded for the benefits from xeno factories. Now both of them show up in my available projects. After trading for lots of tech it gets a little clutered in colony management with some useless projects as games go on for a long time. Heres my idea to make things a little easier. You could add another section to the already existing three sorting projects menus(newest, old, all) and call it obsolete. Now say I select xeno factory. Now say all I have to do to remove it from just newest click an obsolete button. Now its still in old and all menu, but now its in obsolete too and gone from newest. This should cut down on cluter. Now say for some reason I obsolete the wrong project or say I thought about it after obsoleting xeno factories and dont really want to, so I just want to unobsolete by selecting the project first in the obsolete menu and then clicking a button in the obsolete menu called say unobsolete so it goes back to the newest project menu. We could even add this to shipyard menu ie if you obsoleted the wrong ship. Tell me what you think.

^^

I've run into this problem as well.

After trading for new technologies from other races, their buildings begin to clutter my build options window under the colony management screen. It would be nice for there to be a way to remove a building from the list and onto another one.

I had posted this in the beta reports forum... Before seeing this thread. So I will post it here too... It has been getting a positive response by people who seem to agree with me. I truly feel this addition will increase ease and flow of play by 9000%.

Here is the post:

"I have a suggestion for zooming in and out with the mouse wheel in the tech tree...

Basically I am a digital artist. I use many programs. Photoshop Illustrator, Corel Draw, etc...

For many years I have also used a program called Paint Shop Pro. I tend to use version 7.0 for a 'light' program that doesn't take up a lot of system resources to run. Well... (this DOES all apply to a point I am getting to)... In Paint Shop Pro version 7 (and latter versions too I believe), there is a function of the mouse wheel that is EXTREMELY organic and practical...

The mouse wheel is used by the program to zoom in and out. Scroll forward to zoom in, backwards to zoom out. Sounds simple… But what makes it phenomenal and indispensable is the specific nature of the zoom in function... Basically the program will take into account where the mouse pointer is located on the screen and use it as a center point for zooming in. So whenever you zoom in, wherever your mouse pointer is located, it will zoom into that direct area. If you zoom out, move the pointer over another area/location and zoom back in it will re-center the zoom area to where the pointer was located. The zoom always remains in the center of the cursor.

This would be EXTREMELY helpful in the GalCiv2 tech tree... You would be able to zoom in and out without needing to scroll around or drag the screen around. Just hover the mouse pointer over the spacific tech you want to see (or the branch) scroll the wheel inwards and viola! It will zoom right into what you are looking at. If anyone is not understanding what I mean get a copy of Paint Shop Pro and just open a large graphic and try zomming in and out with a mouse wheel... You will get what I mean right away. It astounds me that Adobe doesn’t implement this feature into Photoshop as it is such an absolutely natural way of moving around the screen…. In fact when I use Photoshop I want to toss my computer out the window because it does not have this feature.

If this (simple?) modification was made to the mouse wheel zoom, it would really make the tech tree an extension of the hand (even in it's split screen incarnation). Hell, it could even be applied to the general game map.

Just a thought."

One thing I would like to suggest, allow players to write there own world description's.

might seem a wee bit pointless in comparison to the other ideas suggested here but it really helps a role player flesh out his/her custom race.

Something that might be fun, but dunno how hard to do. Dyson Spheres. You'd have to have probably the highest tech lvls to be able to create one, but seeing one huge system wide metal planet would be cool. not to mention the bonuses for buildings and population for economy.

plenty of things to go into one and shouldnt a civilization at that level be able to create one?
