No, it should be dishonourable, actually.

Well, if you start with that, we'll have to be consistent: colour, armour, neighbour... elimination of the letter 'z'...

I remember a very funny open letter by John Cleese on the subject, I'll see if I can find it when I'm home.

Dishonourable is the correct spelling.

So, where do the advocates of 'dishonourable' get their info?

Hmmm???

Oxford dictionary.

Also, English is, surprisingly enough, originally a British language. When in doubt, I always choose the British spelling. Even if it's just to annoy US speakers (especially with words like aluminium...)

John Cleese Letter

Please take this in the spirit that it was written,

Learn to respect the birthplace of english language. US english is an off-shoot. Oxford has way more credibility then Merriam-Webster or any other for that matter.

And where do the 'dishonorable' advocates get their info? Oh I know! Merriam-Webster! Whoop-de-do!

That's it, then... after Moosetek's disloyal talk, we're taking back the "American" colonies to their rightful place as a backwater of the British Empire. And, as a Canadian, living about 200m from the US border (that's kind of like a half-mile to you Yanks), I shall lead the charge... are you with me, everyone?

For honor! For glory!

EDIT: Err, honour, rather.

And since when do those in the U.S.A (or anywhere else for that matter, except for England) give a rat's a** about the Queen's anything?

Haven't you heard of the British Commenwealth? Largest empire in history. Right here, baby. (excuse my audacity)

I hereby revoke your citizenship, FireBender. When you are ready to spell things properly, and with a stiff upper lip, eh wot, I will consider reinstating you.

Commonwealth. Happy?

And I will not take anymore back-talk from you, colony boy. I am from the British Isles plus I am a Knight and sadly you're not. Pick a better title next time.

Excuse me, but, if Britain were so stupid as to wage war on the U.S.A. today - they would be particulate matter in no time flat. (just like it happened the first time, I might point out!)

The good ol' U.S.of A. is the only superpower in existence these days, don't you know.

(not that it will remain so, to my own personal desire)

U.S.A. - right or wrong - ra, ra ra.

If any of you can overturn the U.S.A. way of things (including the spellings thereof) - I applaude you.

I seem to recall a stalemate. With the U.S taking humiliating losses at sea(none could challenge the imperial fleet!) and barely managing to defeat the British on land and keeping their pride intact.

Puh-leeese. It may be a superpower but certainly not the only one currently around. Even the USSR outclassed the US during the days they were there. USA will lose its economical edge also in the next 40 years.

U.S.A. - right or wrong - ra, ra ra.

Honestly, you sound like a blonde American hillbilly in an internet cafe. (no offence)

Besides, more people use the British spellings then the US ones.

British-American spelling guide

I think you'll find that so many words which you previously thought to be the american are actually the british spellings.

applaude - yes, I misspelled with the 'e'.

"Honestly, you sound like a blonde American hillbilly in an internet cafe. (no offence)"

None taken, since what I said was given with sarcasm. And, I am neither blonde nor a 'hillbilly', nor do I frequent any internet cafe's.

"Puh-leeese. It may be a superpower but certainly not the only one currently around. Even the USSR outclassed the US during the days they were there. USA will lose its economical edge also in the next 40 years."

Today, it is the only one around.
As to 'during the days' - well, those days are past.
And I agree that the U.S. will lose its edge. It has already begun.

Sorry, the first time? Are you recalling the declaration of independence and subsequent war, which I hasten to add you needed french help (the only war the french have ever won)

I suspect that a war between the US and the UK is unlikely ever, however if the aim was to bring down the US then I think removing the US access to OIL would bring forward the collapse of the US economy, the US economy can only survive as long as it keeps printing dollars (debt notes). if Oil had to be sold in pounds or euros the dollar would be no more. Oh did I mention Iran is selling it's oil in euro's (so china/russia don't need the have dollars anymore to buy oil) the time the US has as a superpower is almost up. the only way out of this is to take out Iran, mark my words that will be soon and for the reasons above, nothing to do with nuclear weapons (if it was Israel would have nuked them long ago)

As for spellings it was the UK that used "ize" and we decided to change it (to "ise") not the other way around. John Cleese got that one wrong.

Please. First of all, with the Queen..... Don't care.
The States being the only Superpower? Many countries can be considered Superpowers, even Canada with the Natural Resources and power.
Economics? The American dollar is worth less than the Canadian dollar at the moment also the States is HOW MUCH in DEBT to China?
I am not a States basher by no means, but don't think that the United States is all so powerful, Too much T.V.
