Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor Status Report

Beta this Tuesday

There's going to be a slight delay in the release of the beta of the first expansion pack. Our IT team tells us that some additional testing of Stardock Central's module handling will be needed to make sure all the new directories and such required by Twilight of the Arnor can be done.

But work continues in the meantime and I hope to provide a game play example over the weekend as we flesh out the new tech trees and components and start on the AI updates.

Here are a couple of screenshots from the internal alpha:

The new "for sure" date is Tuesday.

We have the beta ready, just not the delivery system for it.  I apologize for any inconvenience!

Take your time to get things right, and thanks for keeping us up to date. Look forward to the gameplay log. Love the new Drengin interface graphics!

Probably being ignorant, but the interface is the same. Except for a little yellow bar just right of the research.

Since the beta is pretty much done, can we get a brief list of what it encompasses?
have ground combat animations been updated for this first beta? Is this first beta essentially just the 3 tech trees and the new improvements that go with the new techs and nothing else?

Terror stars?

BTW, Binjack it says you are a veteran. How do you attain this status?

Start up a DA game, look at the border art around the UI elements, like around the mini map, then look at the screenshots again.

Essentially, at the whim of the Stardock staff, usually for comminuty contribution, or some such. In my case, it was an oversight that I've mentioned several times, but no ones ever gotten around to fixing it.

New planet textures and raw maps!? Now you guys didn't go and put me out of a modding job did ya? The High-Res Graphics mod is going to be obsolete now eh? Bummer I was looking forwared to updating it for Twilight!

Listen, stuff like this is why Stardock is the best company around in fan-relations. The beta is going to be late? There's a front page explanation of why, followed by the first comment - from the company CEO - giving a new date.

Just don't pull a stunt like working on the game when you have much, much more important things to do.... like a new child coming.

I suppose the IT staff can be told that as well.

Can`t hardly wait !! Logic what New planet textures and raw maps can you come up with ???

Frankly, having the date slip a couple of days is no biggie. I'm sure there is plenty to work on!

I don't mind the late date for the beta...heh, I wound up going for the beta for ToTA because, ironically, I wanted to try the beta for Sins of a Solar Empire through TotalGaming.net, only to discover that the ONLY payment plan for the site involves buying a flat $70 fee...a pretty steep price to pay, but the shock is lessened when you consider I could get three things for it - so I preordered Sins, I preordered ToTA, and with the remainder I bought Mr. Robot for something to do during waits. XD

Mr. Robot? Let me know how that game is....

Ah, I see it now. I was right, I was ignorant. Well you know what they say about ingorance.

Any chance of Stardock updating Galactopedia to work with TotA? Or putting the guy who made it on the payroll?

With all the changes and new improvements not to mention future patches which will further update the stats of so many different things Galactopedia would be incredilbly useful.

It's a shame that a type of Galactopedia hasn't been incorporated directly into Gal Civ2, would be great if it could. (Im unaware of all the TotA updates hopefully this is one of them). It would help new people to the game hugely as well as people who have played Gal Civ2 since it came out.

Thanks for the update.

I will take the time to comment on that border, it is for me a good example of how great design should be, maintaining visibility, and functionality, with enough attitude remaining to make an impression, without screaming for attention. This is clearly expertise.

Nice changes, just enough to keep whetting the old appetite.

Take your time, get it right. Gives me time for my new machine to arrive

Its only "late" when its a mess on arrival. Since the latter never happens, its no issue. The fact that the fan base is kept in the picture as far as is sensibly possible in the ever changing world of development, is why Stardock has such a loyal following.

If other corporations took the trouble to communicate in a similar way the world would be a better place.

Take your time Froggy...a few days wont matter, and in light of the work you guys do...there is certainly no need to apologize.

Well, on the bright side, I guess that's one less thing to distract me from all the homework, papers, and projects I have to do this weekend.

Can't wait till Tuesday, though.

Looking forward to Tuesday.

I probably should finish the game I am slowly working through beforehand. I *have* made the mistake in the past of abandoning a game, and then trying to pick it up a few days or weeks later. It's a challenge for me to recapitulate what I was thinking at the time with plans and strategies.

Man, I was really hoping I could play before my next classes start. I just finished finals for one set and had the entire weekend open. It's really hard to find time to play when you work full time and go to school full time. Oh well.

Is it just me or is that really annoying minimap glare gone!!?
Very nice.
Really wish i had the money to pre-order.
