Custome Race Design Bug

If you open up the custom race design screen, then go back and select an already created race and then hit 'Next,' it will open the custom race design screen again with the already created race's stats and some free points to spend on additional abilities. You can build a super race like this. It looks like a bug.

Looks like it might be time to start up some custom race suicidal games on the metaverse...

I'm not seeing any abnormal behavior.  When I go back to the pre-designed race, I'm not getting any extra points than I'd get if I'd picked that race in the first place. What version are you playing?

There are free points to be spent even when choosing a pre-defined race. But there are less points to be spent. Compare the points for a pre-defined race with that of a custom race ... there should be a significant difference, initially.

Yes, I'm terribly disappointed...I was looking forward to creating a superrace maxed out in every category...I guess I'll just have to settle for the Thalans (next best thing). No bug here.

To the OP: This is normal behavior. When you make a custom race and assign all their points, then hit back, and select a canned race and hit "next", you are then in the customization screen for that canned race, with their points. They get points too, just not as many as a custom race. If you hit back again, and come back to that screen and see points there, its the same points as before...the "changes" to that race dont take effect until you hit "next" from that screen, and reset every time you hit "back".

Yes, adding those points to a canned race can allow for some very powerful combinations. The tradeoff for the custom race is that you get to pick "exactly" what you want with all the points. Whether or not this is actually balanced is the subject of discussion of a number of other threads on the subject, that I'm sure you can find with a little effort.

Well, then maybe it is just a balance issue. I am able to design races using that with racial stats that are far beyond the capabilities of a standard custom race.

Also, when doing this, if I restart the game entirely (from the desktop) and try to create a new game using a custom race, I cannot get back to a normal custom race. I have intrinsic abilities already selected from the race that I previously customized, and I have a preset super ability that is not changeable. Not being able to get back to a normal custom race definitely seems like a bug.

Also, it does not make sense that I should be able to give an already designed race additional abilities beyond what they currently have. I haven't tried this yet on the 1.8 version because the only way I could figure out how to get back to a normal custom race was to wipe out the custom race files in the My Games folder.

Have you tried hitting the clear button on the Custom Race screen?

Yes, I tried that. All it did was unpick those extra 10 points that are available on the customization of the default races.

egable and CariElf, this particular "bug" happens when a player modifies a Standard Race and then uses it as a Custom Race later. The "Clear" button resets the presented race to its Default options, as it should. When this happens in a Custom Race Screen it basically means that the race is appearing "twice". The easiest way I've found to deal with this is when I start with no custom races, I hit "Next" on the Custom Race Selection Screen thus saving a Default Custom Race that can be loaded at later date if need be.

If a player selected the Custom Race to begin with and then hits Clear at a later date it does reset to the Default position.

From a coding point of view the only way I could say this could be resolved from the development team would be to implement a Clearing Command in the game code that would reset the Custom Race to the Default Custom Race every time a player is in the Main Race Screen, instead of the current "saving" feature it does now (where the last race entered on the screen appears when you select custom race)
