Can't alliance in DA 1.80a

For some reason I can't seem to create alliances in 1.80a. I might have a cold and my brain full of sn*t but shouldn't it be enough to have the Alliance technology and being close with the race you want to ally with?

I have the Alliance tech and when I entere the Diplomacy screen for any of the races which I am close with, the Alliance option never appears.

Oh, blerg. In my last game, I couldn't get an Alliance option out of one of the AIs (I did with the others). It never occurred to me to just trade (or outright give) him Alliance technology (I jealously guard my yellow techs). Thanks for reminding me.

the problem is more pertinent when tech-trading is off - then you can't give anyone alliance tech. perhaps, as alliance is fundamental to a diplomatic victory, the AI's should place a higher value on researching it? or tech-trading off disables alliance victory?

edit: and, of course, option 3 would be that alliance tech operates like universal translator ie the AI doesn't need the alliance tech fro an alliance to happen, just the player

I agree with Evil Roy. I tend to avoid alliance victories because they're (a) hard to get, (b) lower in points than conquest (though maybe this depends on how many people you can manage to score an alliance with?), and (c) very difficult to get no matter how diplomatic you are when in a no-tech-trade game.

I think once one player (human or AI) has alliances, he should be able to ally with anybody else he wants.

Why not send in your request to the email address posted for players wishes? Might stand a chance of happening if they get to see it in front of them.
If enough people in the forum here agree with you (oh and i think it sounds like a good idea) you could add their names to the email as an indication to the powers that be that your idea has some merit

Just a thought!

Good idea, but I've no idea what that address is... I'd happily send this thread (with the advice to start reading at post 4 since that's where the idea starts), but I don't think I've ever seen such an email address.

Frogboy and Kryo (and many others im sure, sorry for those i left out) do read these forums regularly.

and I have to say, I agree with this idea.

Alliances with tech trading off is a pain in the butt.
