Ideas for additional features in TA

I'm a new poster here, but have played both DL and DA. I had a recent thought about the maps and some features that might be interesting to implement.

One feature that would be interesting to put in place might be the concept of shipping lanes. The best reference for this could probably be seen in Star Wars Empire at War. While it is still possible to move from planet to planet directly, the fastest route is through a "hyperspace lane". I figured that later in the game players could research some other form of stellar cartography or navigation in order to be able to travel quickly anywhere they wanted. This could also change the tactical side of the game by effectively giving players choke points (specific planets) to hold in order to secrue an area. Like I said, attacking players could still go around these planets, but it would be much, much slower (or perhaps not at all until some tech is researched).

Another concept that also borrows from Empire at War (and also from the Yor's super ability) might be other large-scale space "anomalies" such as nebulae, quasars, black holes, etc... Players would have to steer clear of these or traverse them much more slowly (nebulae). Perhaps sensors would not work in their field of effect as well.

I love the shiping lanes idea, Think a stargate between you manufacturing woulds and the front line, but your ship travel through the stargate with their hyperdrives. Now that would be great, little sneak attcks to destroy the lines.

Also, I think AI govener who would build a planet to what focus your use.

Stelth ships which are hard to find so they can raid star bases or hyprespace lines.

More piracy/sneaky war, as in quick attcks of trade routes, starbases, hyperspace lanes.

Hmm, Starbase Stargates. A stargate that could be built by a constructor far away where ships could travel in one end and come out the other in 1 turn(or more depending on the distance).

Stargates that pinch space(reducing the actual distance to travel) and hyperdrive assisted ships to go even faster through them. I like this idea. But they would need to be expensive and have atleast 5 constructors to build them at each end + additional maintenance costs. Very useful in gigantic galaxies and practical too.

I like this idea a lot too, and this could provide a lot of strategy. What if a civilization takes your stargate and can use it against you? Move their ships to the your homeworld before you have the chance to take it down. Or should you be able to take it down? Interesting idea...

On another note about new concepts for TA, I was thinking that there should be "Arnor" ship templates. So when you find a Ranger, they don't just look like your race's own ships. I mean you can only find Corvettes and Rangers anyways, right?

I would also like to be able to create a fleet including a starbase. It annoys me that starbases are vulnerable, but if I could leave a couple of my last generation warships defending it, it might survive alot longer.

Neat idea. But Hyperdrive was created to put an end to stargates. Anyway, welcome to the forums, dude!
