Now thats a ship!

I've been fighting the 4 top militaries in my current game for years now. They just won't quit. The Altarians keep donating ships way on their side of the gigantic galaxy. I've been just sending them to the nearest enemy planet/starbase within my life support range and letting them die annoying the enemy since it would take half the game for them to make it to me.

They just donated a battleship to me. I've had these before, but this one has seen previous combat. 8M Attack, 6A Defense, and 64HP. I flew it straight through the heart of the Thalian's empire and it blew up absolutly everything they threw at it, which was a lot. At least 12 heavily armed frigates, 4 battleships, and an assortment of smaller vessels. It finally got down to 4 HP, but there were no enemies left. Looking at the Thalian's military graph shows that they just lost about an eighth of their fleet though I'm not the only one attacking them.

This is the first time an AI has donated a decent ship to me. Just thought I'd share my wonderment at the luck of that one battleship.

ive only ever had the other empires give me frigates most end up in a high PQ worlds defence force as they arent much use for anything.

i am however it seems quite fortunate in the pre-cursor finding vessel event stakes having totalled abou 11 discovered "rangers" in my last game, which was nice! i didnt have to build any ship myself beyond colonisers and transports lol

I do tend to pick luck as a racial quality though, which undoubtedly helps 9along with the bonus from a universalist approach)

8M Attack, 6A Defense, and 64HP


This is a battleship? Never seen a large hull with such low attack & defense ratings, not even the core 'BattleShip' that you start with in some campaign missions. But then, that's because I don't progress up to Large Hulls for quite a while - I've so far used high-tech Mediums with Micro Repair Bots and Hyperion Shrinkers, and these get up to Level 4 or Level 5, with Photon/Antimatter Torpedoes, top-level or penultimate-generation defenses, and Warp Mk.5 or HyperWarp engines by the time I go for Large ships. The AI tends not to come up to Medium for a while, and Large comes a long time after that. I've seen the Korx research Large Scale Building, but they didn't build any Large ships before they got destroyed.

Same here.

I've seen Yor (in good relations phase) with Large hulls, Lasers +5, Phasors, and higher than singularity drivers+ shileds 3 and more, yet never muster more than a decent quality frigate when relations broke down and we went to war. 2 Fleeted Battlecruiser level ships, for me, would tear through their whole fleet and they'd still not mustered out so much as a Light Cruiser, even.

These I believe are medium hulled ships. The AI has yet to research anything better. It is named battleship so I'm assuming the Altarians use it for that purpose. It does seem to fit the bill as well. The extra HP is from experience in previous battles.
