What precisely do those abilities do?

Bravery gives you better soldiering when you are the "underdog" I think.

Creativity adds a small, random amount of TP each turn to your current research, resulting in sometimes finishing a tech a turn early every once in a while.

I'm not at my home PC to check the description, but I think Bravery is only used when it's your planet being attacked.

Hmm...they don't seem like very worthwhile places to put points then.

I played the demo version and set the production slider to zero over 100 turns creativity only got me one tech.

I think, based on the description, that bravery gives you a soldiering bonus when defending.

If you look at the debug log, there seems to be a bravery effect on ships. This may just be an experience level thing, but it may also improve your ship combat.

Bravery would give you a 25% bonus to battles on your planets. It would cost you more then double that to get the same bonus on all battles. So if your playing games where you don't do much attacking, perhaps preferring to flip planets with influence, but you do get attacked then this is a very cheap way to get a big bonus while defending.

If I were playing a defensive game with a good/neutral race in a hostile galaxy I would want this.

Kinda lame though, when there is also a soldiering bonus you can put points in. But I really think the Bravery is only in effect when you have less soldiering skill than your opponent. Meaning it is worthless if you have a higher level than the other person.
