Need separate forums for DA and DL

It seems to me that this forum could benefit from sorting out DA and DL content. I'm trying to locate threads that will help me play DL, and it's all but impossible to discern it from DA conversations.

Or am I the only guy left playing DL?

I see lots of talk about the economy and the sliders (what's all this "1/99" talk I see?) and have no idea if it's something I should pay attention to.

While I have your ear, has anyone developed a definitive guide to the economy or the game in general?

You are not the only one still playing DL. I second the noination for separate threads for issues exclusive to DL.

When you read the threads concerning slow internet connections or the availability of DA or GC2 Gold in Europe or in retail stores, you will notice that there are quite a few guys out there who are stuck with DL, for various reasons.

I still play DL as well for various reasons. The major one is that my preferred game size is gigantic and with the engine nerfage of DA combined with effectively doubling the planet count it's my assumption that the game size that I like will be far slower than it is with DL. Since it takes me two months to play a gigantic DL game you can see why I would not be particularly interested in making games take longer to play.

I do have to emphasize that since I haven't actually played a DA game, this is only supposition on my part but anyway the above mentioned reason coupled with not wanting to upgrade via SDC are my primary reasons for still playing DL.

Note that in a previous thread there was mention of the potential of reducing the engine nerfage in which case this would remove my primary objection. I think this was proposed for TA though.

This addresses why I (and possibly others) still play DL. However as to the stated premise of separating DA and DL into separate forums I don't really agree. I do understand your confusion between what applies to DA versus what applies to DL but I believe that DL and DA have far more in common than they have differences.

Also while I think there are a noticable percentage of folks still playing DL, I do believe that DL players are in the minority with respect to DA players and the separation into a DL only forum would result in a sparsely attended forum. I don't think this would help anyone.

My suggestion is that if you find yourself confonted with information that you're not clear whether or not it applies to DL then you should simply ask. Most people have played both games and many continue to do so going back and forth between the two. There is a large supply of knowledge here about what applies to which game. Usually things can apply to both with only minor modification for one or the other.

A sparsely attended but Topics Specific FORUM is EXACTLY what we DL player are looking for.

What engine nerfage? You can still make super fast ships in DA, and the AIs will make slower ships than you for easy pickin' regardless.

Engines are much more expensive and somewhat slower and bigger in DA. You can still build fast ships, but they become so expensive, it's not worthwhile to build them (takes too long). Although, the huge hull is bigger, but again, it becomes a cost issue. It doesn't do you much good spending all your time building huge fast fighters when the AI is coming down on you. You're much better off with slower ships that are quicker to build. Basically, when comparing ships of equal speeds, it takes 4 times longer to build them in DA than DL. I would say that qualifies as a pretty big engine nerf. In any case, it has a big impact on strategy and makes playing gigantic maps excruciatingly slow. Combine that with the autopilot bug and you spend all your time in ship movement hell. Not a fun game.

My preferred game is gigantic/abundant so I play DA with DL engines. For Metaverse, I'm playing DL.

I have no strong opinion regarding the OP's topic, but I don't think a separate forum is really necessary. I think some people are playing both games. DL still has some things going for it. As of the current official DA release, DL has less bugs and runs faster and more reliably.
