Complete and total noob's mod question

Hello all, I am so new to this Galactic civilizations stuff that I have not even gotten the game yet (I ordered it on friday and today is monday) With that said, I just came from playing nothing but Elder scrolls and Star Trek Bridge commander for years, so I am really looking forward to this Star Trek Mod.

My question is this: once the mod is complete (or even now, with the beta) would I be able to have Klingons and Dregnins duke it out or would the star trek material replace the stock game stuff entirely?

Thank You,
Primero Indoril Cygnus

PS: Any chance somebody could make a Dune mod based on their own vision of the Butlerian Jihad? You would only need to make two races: Free Humanity and the Thinking machines. The Thinking machines would have slave pits, and thats all I can think of right now. Thanks again.

Beats me. I'm not working on any star trek mod. But I do know something about modding this game.

It depends how the mod is set up. What most mods are is a bunch of files in a special mod directory (both DL and DA have their own separate ones). The game will only use the stuff if it is told to use that specific mod. Depending on where the files are at will determine if the new content is added to the game, or replaces the existing stuff.

-Stuff in the data folder (not in any sub-folders) will replace existing content.
-Stuff in tucked neatly in their specific directory in the data folder, however, will be added to the existing content.

Take a look at this when you get your game.

I believe the Star Trek Mod is a Total Conversion, so it would replace all content with Star trek content.

So, in order to do what you want you would have to 'cut and paste' a few (well, several) things.

In other words, you would have to mod the mod.
