Retrospective custom ships

Brief question: is there any way to retrospectively add customships to save game?

I built some custom ships that I saved as just templates without techs, left my game and lost the designs and now I'm trying to get them back.

I can get a hold of the ship templates when I start a new game, is there any way I can rejig the xml and/ or shipcfg files so that the templates appear in the save game which I designed them in (hopefully just the xml files but having fiddled around this looks less likely)?

Spent hours when I should have been doing something more productive building my empire and would hate to have to start a new game from scratch to get a hold of the ship designs I also spent hours on...

If you made the ships then returned to a prior save, then unfortunately there's no way to get them back into that particular game short of remaking them. The ships available in a particular game are stored within the save (as with most of the game data), so it can't be altered.

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.... I heart you sir.... I've been saving ALL of mine AND I have that saved game saved as a "template" for future ships/etc....

working for me so far... really sorry to hear that you're having this problem... it takes me forever to make my ships... I spend ALL kinds of time (lol) meticulously making them perfect/etc.
