New vid card and new Forceware = jaggies

New vid card and new Forceware = jaggies

Hey all,

I'm running a new Nvidia 7600 GT in my rig. The opening movie is fine, but the selection screen and in-game screens yield streaks of light flashing across the screen. I never had this problem before with ANY vid card or ANY iteration of the Nvidia drivers. I also don't have this problem on ANY other game (Doom 3, Anarchy Online and a few others). Anyone else have this experience? Thanks.

FYI - all Windows drivers are up to date, vid card is NOT overclocked beyond factory settings.

All options exhausted. Gonna RMA tomorrow. So, anybody got any recommendations on a mid-priced Nvidia AGP card that will actually play this game?

This what i`m running so if you can`t get the card to work and you have made sure that the card is in the agp or pcix slot right then it may be a bad card make sure card is in motherboard right and make sure your cables are connected right which i`m sure you have!!!
i have not had any trouble out of my card.

sorry to hear about all trouble you are having

Ayup. I'm using an eVGA Nvidia 7800GS. It's about $180.00 but worth every penny if you don't want to go up to an 8800GS+ PCI-E. Aside from the OC version of the same card from BFG, it's the best AGP there is or ever will be unless you somehow ended up with an AGP board with SLI (then you can go to a pair of 7950's...but I wouldn't..not when that's it for the AGP tech there's ever going to be...it'd be cheaper to convert to pci-e and get an 8800GT for the price of a pair of 7950's).

The 7800GS AGP was announced in Feb of 06, so it's 1.75 yo tech, but it's still nearly completely supported and widely produced. The latest forceware and even ntune overclocking software work on it, even!

It's what I'm using and it's been a godsend for MANY games that began having problems for me when I went with a 6200... I tried to save $100.00 by getting a 6200 and ended up creating more problems than I solved. I took it right back to Fry's and traded up for the 7800GS and have been very pleased. eVGA is my new favorite GPU manufacturer.

Edit: Oh, I should tell you that you'll need a 4-pin molex from your PS for this video card. Make sure you don't put any other devices on this cable...you want all the power from that rail of the PS to go only to the card.

You are running AGP with a VIA chipset?

Have you updated the VIA chipset drivers?
How about the AGP drivers as well?

Outdated or mismatched drivers can cause some strange anomalies.

ClubIT.com has that card for $133.99:

I bought my 6800GS from them, and they seem to be fast and reliable, as well as inexpensive.

hehe Therein lies the difference. I don't buy from online... When I put money out for computer parts, I hate waiting for them. I could have, at the time I bought mine, got it for $50.00 less if I'd ordered from Newegg.com... I like to quote electronic outlet store prices so that if one buys from online, they're pleasantly treated by better prices.

Sir Nasty, Khanon and Moosetek,

Thanks guys! I appreciate your time and your recommendations.

Khanon - I'll be checking out that card this morning (while pretending to work). Thanks for the glowing recommendation.

Moosetek - The VIA drivers and AGP drivers have been updated to the newest I can find. I'm also running a 550W PS with two 12V rails.

Cheers, and hopefully I'll be up and playing again soon.

It seams like my 7900GT had a currupt core. Now running a 8600GT and every thing is sweet. The eye candy factor is back up to max every thing and no jaggies and no light house suns now..

well back to my rare planet gigantic game, them yor are cruising for a bruising

edits.. oops ment 8600GT not 8800GT (they aren't out yet)
