New vid card and new Forceware = jaggies

Hey all,

I'm running a new Nvidia 7600 GT in my rig. The opening movie is fine, but the selection screen and in-game screens yield streaks of light flashing across the screen. I never had this problem before with ANY vid card or ANY iteration of the Nvidia drivers. I also don't have this problem on ANY other game (Doom 3, Anarchy Online and a few others). Anyone else have this experience? Thanks.

FYI - all Windows drivers are up to date, vid card is NOT overclocked beyond factory settings.

Can you get a screenshot of it and post your debug.err?

(FYI, "jaggies" are the opposite of anti-aliasing--this is something else, which I think I've seen people report from time to time before, the screenshot should help confirm that)

Kryo,

I'll have to get it when I get home tonight. Thanks for looking for now. I'll look up the process of getting a debug report done and post it here tonight.

I'm just a user here. But, it looks like there's driver update available. For the NVidia 7600 series, I'm showing the latest drivers to be 163.71 (dated 28 Sep 07):

NVIDIA Driver Downloads

Also, I've seen similar screenshots on their ForceWare Drivers forum (though usually for Vista, not XP).

Cari suggested trying running the game in a window (if you use your desktop resolution it'll still look like fullscreen), and changing the anti-aliasing level.

Other than being super annoying, at least it looks kinda cool, like rain or comets coming out of the screen at you!
Damn.

I've been getting the same with my GeForce 7900 GT on a few different games. I thought it was graphics card was going out. Actually i still think it's going bad because all the default vga screens have hot spot pixel points (sorta like a digital camerea thats been exposed to the sun to long.) Also the windows boot have errent characters displayed. ie instead of "Booting drive C:" it displays "BooØing drive ⌂:"

better go investigate a little more i think.

I don't know if this is the right place to bring this up, but for those with this problem, are you overclocking either your system or your video card? Could it be a heat related problem (for instance, if you run with the case open, does the problem go away?)?
hehe.. i never overclock my own stuff but i do overclock "friends" machines i build for them.

I don't believe i have a heat issue but i will check it out. thanks for the suggestion.

Kryo (and others),

Turned Fullscreen "off" and anti-aliasing "off". Still no joy. Vid card is not overclocked and I don't experience this in any other games or programs. Any other suggestions?

I have a gf 7600gt card and if I run anti-aliasing less the 4 it does crazy things to the

graphics !!! try that turn anti-aliasing all the way up also make sure it is set for best quality on pics !!!

Cari's working at trying to dig up old cases of this to look at, so I'll just give some general things you can try meanwhile (tried looking for the old threads on the matter myself some more, still no luck).

Reinstall the game.
Reinstall DirectX 9.0c.
Uninstall your video drivers, wipe out all traces via Driver Cleaner (google it), then install the latest ones again.
Try various FSAA/Mipmap/etc settings in the nVidia control panel.

So far, I have been unable to find the old records in the bug database about this issue, but I have another suggestion.  In case it's due to the fonts, try re-installing the fonts using this exe:

http://sd.stardock.com/mike/files/gc2-fonts.exe

Awesome, thanks for all the suggestions Stardock team! I'll try everything tonight and see how it goes.

Kryo and Cari,

Here's what I've tried so far:
- Reload fonts - no change
- Reinstall the game - no change
- Reinstall DX9 - no change
- Uninstall/wipe/reinstall vid drivers - no change

Still to try:
- Messing with settings in the nVidia control panel. I'll have to do this tomorrow night. Thanks for trying!

I give up. I tried every setting in the Nvidia control panel with no change. Any last options before I RMA the card?
Have you asked Nvidia what they think? (please don't laugh, there must be some human beings there somewhere.)

Nope.

Such strangeness seems the fault of the hardware itself.
Bad memory or chipset...

You may want to also try lowering your graphics settings, as well as your hardware accelleration... Though, for either one, you shouldn't have to.

I'm running a 7800GS and am having no problems with the latest drivers under XP. I'd venture a guess that it may, indeed, be the card if the latest drivers are still not resolving your issue.

Kryo suggested running in a window.  Did you try running in a lower resolution like 1024x768 to see if it happens in a window that's not fullscreen.

Also, did I suggest that you check to see if there are any updated drivers for your monitor yet?

Hey everyone, thanks for your suggestions thusfar.

Drrider - Haven't called Nvidia yet...but might try that tonight
Khanon - Set all graphics to minimum and also underclocked the card. No effect.
Cari - Windowed mode made no effect. Neither did a lower resolution.

To check tonight - Updated monitor driver, possibly call Nvidia. Also, I had a brainstorm to try rolling back to an older Nvidia driver. Hey, you never know, right?

Rolling back the driver may help, though at this point I believe that will only mask the real issue... You should be able to turn the card all the way up with no issues.
