Game runs like a dog!

Right maybe, i should be happy it runs at all... but i'm not

Yesterday i bought the gold edition through stardock, installed it... well after spending an hour trying to figure out how to download it of course...

I get to the game world screen i'm running 80+ fps. Nice! I pan the screen, i get 5fps... Ok not nice!

So I come here, take a quick look around, to find others with the same problem who are told to basically make sure they have the latest drivers. Now while i'm extremely sceptical that a driver update will accomplish ANYTHING but waste more of my time, since my last update was about a month ago, i decide not be a smartass, and do so anyways. I now have the latest nvidia drivers found on nvidia.com. I run the game, i get 80fps, i move the screen, i get 2fps...

I get a 'tad' frustrated... I decide to ask for help. I'm made aware that it is prudent to include the rundown of the debug.err file.

I then spend about an hour browsing through folders, searching my hd and generally HUNTING around my HD trying to find a file called debug.err, or anything close to it, but fail miserably.

My specs:

AMD64 2800
1 gig of generic ram
GF 6600GT 128mb
Running vista
Running latest nvidia drivers (yes i'm SURE)
Plenty of HD left

My questions:

- wtf?!
- Is there any known fix for this?
- Where the hell is the debugg file?
- Why oh why did i convince myself that this issue would only be present in the demo?

Affectionately yours,
Me..

If you're playing DL, it's due to the complete removal of 2D acceleration in Vista (why did they do that? don't ask me...). The appropriate parts of the game were rewritten in an early DA patch to accomodate the change, so the issue isn't present there. Last I was aware the changes were planned to be ported back to DL as well, but there's no ETA on that update.

Well yes i am playing the Dread Lords campaign presently, but i do have Dark Avatar installed, since i bought the gold edition. Obviously i'm playing the dread lords campaign first because i want to start at the beginning and not jump right in with an expansion campaign.

So you're saying that regardless of the fact that i have Dark Avatar installed, these issues will continue to haunt me for as long as a play the Dread Lords campaign?

Also, i've noticed that the problem is no longer present when i minimize the mini map. Unfortunately the interface becomes very clumbsy that way so i have to keep switching back and forth.

Is there any way i might disable the mini map while still keeping up the rest of the interface? Or will that just lead to slow downs when moving again?

FYI, you can play the DL campaign via the DA program where this won't be an issue (there was another bug preventing progress in the DL campaign when played via DA, but it's fixed in 1.7).

Unfortunately there's simply no solution for it short of the fix being ported back to DL. I just checked with Cari and it seems that it'll be a while before that happens, but it will eventually. Since you have DA though, the simple thing is to just play the DL campaign via it instead of by DL proper.

I am having all of the exact same issues and it's very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!
I'm running an HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop with Vista Ultimate, 2gigs of RAM and a GeForce Go 7600 (512 dedicated video ram). I've updated to the latest display driver that HP has made for my laptop system which is several months old unfortunately for me. But from what I'm reading on the posts over the last few weeks everyone else in my situation is not get it resolved by having the latest drivers recently released anyway, which I can't install on my laptop.
I've tried increasing my virtual RAM to monstrous sizes, letting the system manage it and even disabling the page file. Nothing has worked! The game (both DA & DL) crashes approximately 1/3 to half way through to the end of the game. This is mostly so incredibly frustrating because I really do like the game a lot as far as I'm able to play it.
What's going on!?
What can I do????

@ gabriel
the problem is that your system is to "good", you run into the problem draginol talked about in his "Why you run out of memory" post WWW Link
( your video card alone eats 512 Mb from the 4Gb max, and than you have vista ultimate: at least another Gb down the toilet    )
the good side :SD is working on the problem (1.7 should help)
