Probably a stupid question but.....

Hi,

As the topic suggest this is probably a stupid question and the answer is probably really obvious, but I have noticed that the AI players are able to colonize planets that are unhabitable to me.

I have researched the technologies that allow you to inhabit Aqua worlds, Granite worlds etc, but im still unable to inhabit these worlds, I get a message saying that I need to research the said technology, even though I have?

Any help would be appreciated guys.

Cheers in advance.

what are exactly the name of the techs you have researched?

Im not sure as I am not at home and Im new to the game, but I traded the technologies from AI players, there were four technologies for habiting aqua, granite, gas and something else if I recall right.

If it helps there was also an upgrade to these techs, but it appeared these just better helped u colonize the worlds mentioned above.

Sorry if im a bit vague, I tried finding a tech tree online, but was unsucessfull.

Ok Just found one....

Xeno Biology > Extreme Colonization and then the following techs were traded :-

Aquatic World Colonization
Heavy Gravity Colonization
Toxic Atmosphere Reductor
Radioactive World Colonization

Hope this helps!

Is the problem still here after saving, exiting the game then restarting and loading the savegame?

If it is the case, you can send the zipped savegame to [email protected] with a description of the problem you have encountered.

I am wondering: have you also the extreme colonization tech or just the 4 specific colonization techs?

Is it possible that you tried to colonize a Barren planet? That would require the fifth type colonization tech.

I dont think you need Extreme Colonization of you traded the others but thats still a possibility.

Well the planets I trie to colonize had in red writing "Toxic Atmosphere Reductor" needed etc so I dont think I was trying to colonize a barren planet.

I did try to colonize one planet which had the above written below it and I couldn't, however a few turns the late the AI colonized it, I checked there research to see if there was anything I forgot to trade for and they had no extra techs that I did?

Hi!
had in red writing "Toxic Atmosphere Reductor"

That's the problem. You didn't have the tech for toxic planets. You can not colonize planets with red small circle, only planets with yellow and green (sign that you have the needed tech).

Well as I said above, I traded the Toxic Atmosphere Reductor, so this should have allowed me to colonize the planet surely?

Yea but they say that they had alreay traded that tech, so it should have been yellowed.

Unless the tech Extreme Colonization is also required ...

Im pretty sure I had the Extreme Colonization tech researched as I had the options to research the 4 colonization techs, which would have taken 70 weeks a piece, hence why I traded for them.

Any reason why the AI had them researched so quickly and it would have taken me that long?

They are very research intensive techs, but there are AIs (Yor, Iconians) who begin the game with some of the capabilities (Barren, Aqua, Toxic). In addition, the native abilities and production allocation settings of the various AI races would have had major impact on their research time.

For example: in my typical start setup, starting without X. Biology but with a research intensive (really intensive) race, I would not expect it to take me more than 40 weeks to get any one of the Extreme techs, even allowing for other essential techs I needed to pick up along the way. From the time I finished Extreme Colonization, maybe 12 turns.

BTW, you didn't by any chance trade the AIs for ADVANCED Aqua, Toxic, etc, did you? Because I'm pretty sure you have to have the basic level of each of those techs before you can set down on the planet. The Advanced forms just allow you to get full production out of it later.

I think Drrider most likely has found your problem. If you have the advanced form of colonization without the basic form of extreme (X environment) colonization, then you will not be able to colonize that kind of world.
Also, I am pretty sure I got a partial tech trade once - the computer didn't seem to have finished the tech but somehow traded it to me. I double checked my research screen and it seemed to boost my research by taking off a number of weeks. (I had just gotten the game, and maybe I was dellusional). Make sure it's not able to be researched by you and that it is colored in on the research screen.

In one of my first DA games I get the advanced level by invasion, and all planets of that type turned to yellow. Also the conquered one, previously red. This behaviour could be changed in some later DA version though.   Haven't traded tech much in my last games, and the number of hostile planets was also very low.

I'm pretty sure I've got the advanced form of a colonization tech via invasion spoils too, and that type of planet was immediately available to me (and only at 50% production without the other "half" of that colonization type).

I also have a brutal time getting the AIs to trade the colonization techs (that they seemingly share freely amongst themselves) so for you to be able to trade for FOUR of them when it's taking you 70 weeks to research one yourself (ie, at that research rate what would you have to trade) seems pretty amazing or impressive. Maybe you're playing an amazingly diplomatic race (as I usually do not). In my last game (that had tech trading enabled - I usually disable it because it annoys me too much) I couldn't trade all (20+) my techs for ONE colonization tech from any AI. After researching the entire diplo tree some of them would trade 1 for around 10-15 of my techs, which of course is well beyond reason.

it's not AFAIK.

If you have the advanced form of colonization without the basic form of extreme (X environment) colonization, then you will not be able to colonize that kind of world.

what? have you tested this? from modding i can say the two techs look exactly alike (+50 to the appropriate colonization ability), they just have different costs and AI values.

I presume you were playing sandbox mode, not the Campaign or one of the Scenarios??

are you playing with a mod of some sort turned on?

Strange problem you've got, Nitecom.

I recently played and won my first game with a Super Annihilator race. I got the technologies of Toxic Atmosphere Reductor and Advanced Toxic Atmosphere Reductor automatically when I researched Spore Weapons(and this took only 3 weeks). Throughout the game, I ran my many spore-intoxicated worlds at max production with no problem, and occasionally traded my Reductor techs for surprisingly large amounts of money to the AI.

Later in the game, I flipped an Aquatic world, Dark Yor 2, over from the Korx, and it did absolutely nothing. No production, nil. Only 2 research points, with focus on research having no effect. Then, even later in the game, I stole Aquatic World Colonization while I was spore-bombing the planet Korx. Now Dark Yor 2 was running at half-strength, just as it was supposed to.

The only mod I had was Kryo's Hull System.

BTW, I never had Extreme Colonization at any time in the game.

And how did it take you 70 weeks to research the techs? Try focusing your worlds to research and turning the slider up to see that time figure tumble down like crazy. If it doesn't, your researching capability is just plain weak.

Best thing would probably be to just get the save posted so it can be looked at first-hand.
