Question about RP

I am trying to get an understanding of the game's mechanics.

When I read for exemple Basic logistics cost: 150 rp what does that really mean?

I know if I build research structure it helps but I am not sure I understand the principle.

If somebody could explain it keeping in mind I am a newb I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

RP=Research points

So if the combined research of your planets is 150 shields (=Research points), you get it in 1 round. If it is 75 shields - you have to wait for two rounds...

'Rounds' = weeks = turns.
Basic Logistics is 150RP.
Enhanced Logistics is 800RP.

So, if your total research capacity equaled 950+RP per week, you would get both Basic Logistics and Enhanced Logistics in a single turn.

Research is your friend. The more research capacity, the faster you get ahead of the pack. Just another reason to strive for Neutral alignment ASAP.
NLC's are your ticket home - if you have the econ to support them.

If you look at each of your planets you see on top shields, beekers and hammers. the number of beekers is your RP for that planet, if you add up all of your planets you get your total RP and your capacity to get those techs.

Now when you actually play its not necessary to know what your total RP is, I just look on the tech tree screen and see how long each tech will take and choose what i want next based on time and how valuable a tech is to get earlier.

BTW the same holds true for the hammers (socila production) and shilds (ship building or military production), excet that those are for their respective planets ONLY.

Knowing your RP capacity can be pretty helpful if you like to micromanage and adjust your sliders frequently too. You will probably find you do this more as you get to know the game better.

NLC's cost twice as much, but only provide 25% more RP's than Discovery Spheres. NLC's used to be the same cost as Discovery Spheres in earlier versions of GC2, but they changed it. Makes them pretty pointless now. I put them back to the same cost when playing modded games. Otherwise, I build Discovery Spheres first and only use NLC's on bonus tiles later in the game.

Actually, research is not your real freind at all, it is a mooching freind that only comes around when your 'real' freind - 'money', is with you!

I don't build NCL's anymore (DL) because i am finding that the telepathic defence of the good alignment is quite invaluable! Typically the Drengin will become a problem fairly early in the game on obscene and they always seem to bring powerful missile fleets. I then kick their fleets back to the stone age thanks to telepathic defence. It is an early priority technology for me, however that damb ethical alignment tech is quite an expensive obstacle, grrr.
