Pirates Poofed...

I just updated GalCivII and loaded a game where the mega event that unleashed swarms of pirates upon the galaxy went off. All the pirate fleets had turned invisible, had their HP set to zero, and vanished the next turn. Has this mega event been removed? Are pirates still in the game, or did I just get a really messed up bug?

You can never count on saved games restoring entirely correctly across an engine update. In the case of v1.61, there were pretty extreme graphics optimizations, so that probably goes double. The devs usually warn about possible incompatibilities with old saves at the time of each version update posting.

Yes, the mega pirates event is still in the game. No, there are no widespread reports of it being glitched in v1.61.

I think you just need to start a new game. Each time you upgrade.

thanks for the info, and good point about updates. I was only asking about the pirate horde event because there was quite a bit of negative reaction to it on the forums (i thought it was cool).

I will keep your advice in mind in regards to future updates, and thus keep myself and silly questions off the forums.

Personally I rather like mega pirates. I just turtle up and develop my planets and research, which is how I prefer it anyway. Let the AI guys try to get back in the spacelanes, and incidentally clean up the pirates.

The bug I experienced seems not to be limited to the pirates. I just loaded a game where the Yor collective had completely dominated the galaxy, and now their fleets have been set to 0/0 hit points. They went from having a military strong enough to fight every other major race in the galaxy to have 0 when I loaded the game. This totally robbed me of all the work I put forth pushing them back and not getting wiped out!!

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this bug? Is there some way to revert to a previous version of GalCiv II that didn't have this problem?

The last game I played using the newest beta had pirates attack the whole galaxy. Worked fine. We slowly crushed them one by one until the threat was finally put down.

Are you loading games between different versions? I haven't heard anyone else reporting any similar issues under normal circumstances.

The first time I experienced this, it was with the pirates mega event and it was while loading a game between versions.

after that problem, i started a new game and played it for several hours a day for a couple days. then, one time when I loaded, all the Yor fleets had set their hp maxes to zero and disappeared one month later.

The new game was on the largest possible map with max number of players, and several turns after experiencing this bug it crashed anyway (I'm guessing the crash was due to the galaxy size and # of players).

I don't have any mods in use right now, unless custom races count.

If you still have that save where everything went to 0 (before disappearing), zip it up and send it in to [email protected] with a description of the problem.

I have a problem with pirates to where the pirate ship is pretty much invincible 1 second he's at 5 hp i send another ship to kill him he regenerates by half of his original hp after getting hit.

You've probably sent enough cannon fodder at it that it gained a level. Try rounding up up a fleet and sending it all at once, rather than sending ships single file to their doom.

many months later...

I return in search of the fix for my deranged problem that made me quit playing galciv2 for two months (many apologies for my extended absence, i'm not the most reliable forum-goer)

To Kryo, I have found myself a save that shows the perpetrating bug in the act! several yor fleets appear in sector 2-14 with 0 hit points and no models. As requested, I have e-mailed the save to the provided e-mail.

Just looked at my screenshot, and noticed something wierd... the yor fleet has 0/0 hit points but 4294967295/0 moves left.... huh? might be relevant...
